Just for giggles, I thought some of you mechanical/tech types might find this process interesting.
This is the type of equipment I worked on for 17 years. I started out as a general maintenance tech/welder and worked up through hydraulic specialist to troubleshooter to system programmer/designer/problem solver in the Engineering department.

Anyway, the process is kinda cool.....

Ok..so how to you get a 'pipe' to extrude through the die?  

Can't figure out how the center is supported?

Only way I can think of is retractable supports that are retracted just ahead of the billet as it moves through the die?

And then put back behind the billet.
