We live in the woods and carpenter ants are a huge problem. We have spent
 thousands of dollars with Orkin and on ant poisons trying to keep them under
 control but nothing has helped. So when I read somewhere that aspartame
 *(NutraSweet)* was actually developed as an ant poison and changed to being
 considered non-poisonous after it was realized that a lot more money could
 be made on it as a sweetener than as an ant poison, I decided to give it a
 try.
 
I opened two packets of aspartame sweetener, and dumped one in a corner of
 each of our bathrooms . That was about 2 years ago and I have not seen any
 carpenter ants for about 9 to 12 months. It works better than the most
 deadly poisons I have tried. Any time they show up again, I simply dump
 another package of NutraSweet in a corner, and they will be gone for a year
 or so again. Since posting this information I have had many people tell me
 of their success solving ant problems with this substance, when nothing else
 worked. I found later that small black ants would not eat the aspartame. It
 was determined that if you mixed it with apple juice, they would quickly
 take it back to the nest, and all would be dead within 24 hours, usually. I
 have found that sometimes it will kill them, and sometimes it does not. Not
 sure why, may be slightly different species of ants or something.
 
Fire Ants: We got our first fire ant hill about 2 weeks ago. Poison did not
 work. We tried aspartame and the ants ignored it until we got a light rain.
 It was just a sprinkle, enough to
 moisten the NutraSweet and ground, but not enough to wash it away. They went
 crazy, hundreds of them grabbing it and taking it back into the mound. When
 I checked the mound 2 days later, there was no sign of the fire ants. I even
 dug the mound up, and still saw none of them.
 
How does it Work: *Aspartame is a neuropoison..* It most likely kills the
 ants by nterfering with their nervous system. It could be direct, like
 stopping their heart, or something more subtle like killing their sense of
 taste so they can't figure out what is edible, or smell, so they can't
 follow their trails, or mis-identify their colonies members, so they start
 fighting each other. Not sure what causes them to end up dying, just know
 that for many species of ants it will kill them quickly and effectively.
 
As with any poison I recommend wearing gloves and washing any skin areas
 that come in contact with this poison, and avoid getting it in your mouth,
 despite anything the labeling may indicate.

While aspartame is surely not something you want to consume, particularly if it is in soda that has g0tten hot (like sitting on a runway in Iraq), the fact that it kills ants does not mean it will also harm humans (which it does, regardless of the ants).

For instance, yeast is deadly to rats and boric acid (the primary ingredient in eye wash) will kill cockroaches.

Instead of using aspartame packets with the hazards they present, give Stevia a try.  I have not seen it in soft drinks yet, but it is in some products and is available in packets for use instead of sugar.

Me too.

Considering that sugar has around 15 calories per level teaspoon, as long as it is taken in moderation (and one isn't a diabetic) with reasonable, normal physical activity, sugar ain't all that bad....I don't reckon.   ;D

Ok...disclaimer....I eat butter and beef and aspartame and I've been known to pound down 15 Buffalo wings without apologies.  Do you want to live forever?
My old man was  94 when he died. Beside his other problems that he caused himself, about his last ten years sucked. So I'm not so sure I want to get to 95. You can keep it.The mini-strokes, the not knowing what the f*** is going on....you can keep it.

Ok, I am an action movie freak.  I admit it - I will get wrapped up in the 18 shot revolver, the couch that stops every bullet flying, the guy that flings a hand with a gun blindly over the chair back doing a spray and pray and kills ten bad guys, ...  However, after a couple watchings I start to pay attention, get annoyed and check the facts.

This morning I was having a cup of coffee and reviewing my packing list while The Fast and The Furious was on.  I have seen this movie a few times and wasn't really paying attention until I saw the Charger coming out of the driveway.  This is when I started my irritations with this movie:

This is a barebones blown sub 10 second street racer with skins stretched over a roll cage that does a wheel stand at the start line

1.  This car is daily driver with a smooth idle at 1,000 rpm  ???  I owned on sub 10 second car in my life and helped a friend finish my second after I sold him all the parts when I got married.  These were both used for cruising on the street, but they sure as H didn't idle at 1,000 rpm.  At 1,000 they sounded like a two cylinder "popping Johnny" tractor pulling hard, at 1,200 to 1,500 they smoothed out, and at 2K they were smooth as silk, but deafening.
2.  The 1/4 mile takes 1:35  ???  It is past the 30 second mark before they do their first 5 second slow mo, past the minute mark before he loses a cylinder, and a full 1:35 before they do the "Speed Racer" leap over the finish line with two sub 10 second cars  ???

Time to see if the Lethal Weapon series is on tonight and count rounds between reloads, or even better would be True Lies with the Uzis with 8" 100 round magazines  ???
