Makes sense when you consider that Baden Powell's original intent was to train youth to "scout" for the military. "Boy" scouts were originally intended as a junior militia.

SHHHHH...Tom, don't say that too loud. Liberals might try to ban Boy Scouts next.   ;)

Extreme liberals compare them to Hitler Youth.
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. And make them take girls.
If I hit the lottery I'm going to sue the NAACP and Black Panthers for not letting me join. If I ever get sentenced to public office I'll target the congressional Black Caucus.  ;D

Not to change the subject, but, speaking of winning the lottery.....This is MY kind of 'luck'. If I ever win the lottery, I'm headed straight to the hospital.

Husband leaves $10 million inheritance: a winning lottery ticket

The Associated Press
DANBURY, Conn. — On the day Donald Peters died, he unknowingly provided financial security for his wife of 59 years and their family.

Peters bought two Connecticut lottery tickets at a 7-Eleven store Nov. 1 as part of a 20-year tradition he shared with his wife, Charlotte. Later that day, the 79-year-old retired hat-factory worker had a fatal heart attack while working in his yard in Danbury.

On Friday, his widow cashed in one of the tickets: a $10 million winner. In her grief over her husband’s death, she had put the ticket aside and almost discarded it before recently checking the numbers.

"I’m numb," Charlotte Peters, 78, said at Connecticut lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill.

Donald Peters usually bought the tickets for 10 weeks at a stretch, so the winning ticket he bought Nov. 1 for the Dec. 2 drawing was among several that Charlotte Peters put aside as she, their three children and two grandchildren coped with his death.

"I was in the grocery store, and I had it checked and they told me I was a winner," she said. "I had no idea how much it was."

Charlotte Peters has 60 days to decide whether to take a $6 million pretax lump sum or stretch the winnings into 21 yearly payments of almost $477,300 each.

She does not know what she will do with the money.

It ain't "might"... The BSA spends an enormous amount of money defending themselves from all sorts of lawsuits over their support of belief in God and their ban on gay scouts and leaders. Just  google BOY SCOUTS BAN. I got 346,000 hits. This is a cultural war we are in.

As a former Scout it irritates me that this great organization is forced to waste precious resources to protect its Right to religious affiliation, sexuality stance and even single gender membership.

It was the attack on the Boy Scouts in the early 90's that finally woke me up, made the scales fall from my eyes. I was a brainless liberal - married to one as well. Had a vague discomfort with the recurring attacks on the 2A (mostly due to my participation in a gun club as a kid), but not enough to do much.

Then, a program I knew well as a Cubmaster and Asst. Scoutmaster came under fire, and I started re-evaluating everything. Needless to say, as soon as I started thinking again, I became a neo-conservative libertarian and ardent Constitutionalist type.

I'd bet a large sum of money that there has never been a scout hurt getting thier shooting marret bages( of which there are 3, rifle, shot gun and airrifle/bb gun... I have all 3)when  scout leader was present.   Then again I beleave in education of all things, take away the unkown and the fear goes away.

I don't know for sure but I don't think BSA issues the shooting merit badges any more.
