Hit sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys appears to be heading to the US – but could potentially leave TV bosses with a problem when it comes to the show’s fruitier language.

According to reports a number of networks across the pond have reportedly approached series creator Brendan O’Carroll about airing the BBC One show, which emerged as Christmas Day ratings champion with 9.4m viewers.

However the comedian’s manager has revealed he is refusing to censor the swearing for American audiences, despite strong language being a big no-no on mainstream US TV.

‘The problem with us in the US is that there’s swearing in it,’ explained Rory Cowan – who plays Rory Brown in the series.

‘By law if there is any swearing it has got to be beeped – and not just change the words. Brendan won’t agree to that at all.’

He added: ‘Brendan would stick to his guns. He would rather not change anything.’

Cowan revealed that if the series were to be aired in the US or remade for the American market it would most likely find a home on another channel where language was less of an issue.

‘Brendan is talking to HBO and PBS about doing it in America and they do want it as it is – swearing and all,’ he explained. ‘He’s also talking to Netflix and that’s how they will get around that.’

It’s not the first time the series has fallen foul of censors across the world, with Russian TV execs attempting to cut gay characters Rory and Dino out of the series before it aired over there – something which O’Carroll refused to allow.

However it has proven popular with viewers across the pond, becoming one of the top-rated shows in Canada and also winning a following among the US army after being shown on military bases.

PS the show is brilliant and worth watching   My wife and I even went to there live stage show  they are brilliant  even got to say G'day to them after the show ( Sledge did the same thing when they went to Tasmania as well )

I see it like this.

You may find yourself in a situation where violence is needed to prevent injury or death to innocents.

To put your head in the sand and deny violence exists is foolish.

Foul language, on the other hand, is optional and equated with farting, belching or picking your nose in public.

We have a little .gov group called the FCC that generally no-no's bad talk. Only applies to on-air, so if they hit a cable network with the show, like they mentioned HBO, then no worries. PBS OTOH, is still on-air and the language would likely not get approved.

 I believe things were better when we could call a Spade a Spade and cute girls didn't swear like sailors and share information about their bodily functions. Another show that shocks or gets laughs with bad language doesn't sound like a winner to me, more of them should study the humor of show like Black Adder. An innuendo is much funnier then a toilet mouth dialog! (What happens on the wedding night when he finds the last turkey in the butcher shop? Captain Edmund Blackadder)

i was more just wondering why the big issue about that show   considering everything else out there.
