"Youth" Shotgun for Wife's new Trap Shooting

Hi guys, here's a new question for everyone.
My wife would like to try trap shooting. She's tall but slight, and would probably do well with a "youth" model. She also must shoot lefty because she's left eyed. For that reason and aesthetics, she'd like an over under or single shot, break type... no semi auto or pump.
We're also not sure if she's going to stick with it, so we really don't want to spend more than a few hundred dollars.
Knowing nothing I thought a 20 gauge would be better for her but I'm told that there is so much more shot in a 12 G that it's worth the shoulder pounding. So maybe she needs a 12 G with a good recoil pad.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I went with a 12 gauge for my 12 year old son, full size.  He does just fine with it, as a matter of fact, he beats me most of the time.  Of course I tell him m  I'm holding back.

Over the years, I've had both, and I still shoot my 20 ga Ithaca that I got 45 years ago, the best.  I can really hit with that gun.
My wife has a 20 ga single shot that she's also really good with.  My brother has a chrome barreled black stock single shot that I give him endless grief about, except that he can out shoot me any day of the week.
I like everything about a 20 ga., it's lighter, smaller, and easier to shoot.  Maybe a 12 can turn a bad shot into a hit, but I regularly out shoot guys with 12's.  Back in the days when we had pheasants around here, I alway got more than my hunting partners.

It really depends.  when it comes to shot guning, fit is the most important thing.   Some women youths fit, others don't.  Find one that fits and get it.

Jay, you ought to have her try a Reington 870, which you can get in a left handed configuration. If she needs a youth stock, you can get one.

I shoot trap about 150 times a year.I use a beretta 303 12ga very low recoil even with duck #4's,its semiauto but very easy to use my 9 year old brother shoots it and loves it.
