M&P Shield or Sig P938?
« on: September 03, 2014, 08:32:07 PM »
"If it were for your wife", because it's for mine..
I'm asking primarily in regards to reliability..
No .380s. No .40s. No .45s.
I know the 9mm leaves alot to be desired in a personal (space) defense handgun but it's the biggest thing she's comfortable shooting in something that small..
Thanks for the input, guys!! I DO appreciate it!!!

Please state reasoning for or against whatever your choice may be.
If another choice is your favorite, I need something that fits within the physical dimensions of these two weapons..
Fire away!!!  :o
With friends like these, who needs hallucinations!..

Since the range is 'hot'...

The Sig is .2 shorter, .7 less in height and 3 ounces lighter.

Also fewer controls and those are ambi.

YMMV  :)

A few years ago, I did a roundup of all the ones available at the time. I own a Shield, so I'm biased towards that gun.

I carry the Shield safety off (it's a useless feature, IMO), and I have the Apex trigger in mine. It's a great gun, and I carry it with confidence, and it's also $200 less than the SIG.

I'd still go with a Shield today, but I'd give the LC9s a long, hard look as well.
I can't understand people who think banning guns makes them safer. They must also believe that banning books makes them smarter.

Santa, for what it's worth I don't own either but like Haz pointed out, the Sig is smaller. There was a guy at our open range last night firing one and it is very slim. We check weapons between rounds and I handled it briefly; feels good in the hand and the guy had zero problems with it. If you need SMALL that's the deal there.
I've fired the Shield and it's a nice shooter (for a mini), but standard trigger doesn't get great reviews.
Both good carry guns, but I really think it should boil down to what feels best in her hand, etc.
I got the blues as my companion.

Well, ExurbanKevin, I own a Sig and am HUGELY biased toward that one!  :D

I do have the 938, and it is everything I expect a Sig to be. Since it's not a .380, it's larger for a potential pocket pistol, and I have yet to find anything but a Desantis as a holster for it, but it is an awesome pistol - accurate, fits my hand wonderfully, have yet to have anything close to a FTF or FTE, it just runs.

Has she handled both/either of them ?
Smaller might not be a good thing depending on her hand size.
Also, do ambi controls make the pistol wider and possibly more difficult to conceal ?
Both are high end companies, both guns have good reputations, seems like it might come down to price and immediate availability.

LOL You posted the above while I was typing  ;D

Have you looked into the possibility of a pocket clip like this ?

We're living north of Atlanta and this place is flat COVERED UP with indoor ranges! I do love that!!!
Finding a 938 for rent has been a difficult thing! She trusts me but she's not popping for one that she hasn't shot. I finally found a range that had a 938 for rent but it's right in the middle of the city.. I'm guessing we'll be headed there after church! (I'll suffer through the inconvenience  ;D)
I tend toward the Sig myself but Smith is a fine company and she does like the Shield. Till she puts some rounds downrange with the Sig and the Smith in the same session, she's not ready to commit.
I don't know what to make of it but she took me out to a rental range for my birthday and the one I wanted to rent (a 226) broke within 3 rounds of my picking it up, and the (same) place that I took her last weekend had the 938 but the safety had been broken off. (HOW?!!)
I've been pining away for the 226 SAO, "Short & Smart" model but I just can't see that kind of money for it.. Not even a Sig..  :(
Thanks guys!!
I finally got a (good lookin redhead) gun girl!!! She even loves my old tired butt!!!
Life is good!!!

That's where I've been hiding, btw.. Nothing personal. Just busy!!  :D

Sounds like a keeper, but here's a checklist for you.
(Especially with a redhead !  ;D  )

Just for the record my ex would have been yes on about 10 of 19.

http://clashdaily.com/2014/09/19-signs-youre-dating-married-crazy-bitch/

19 Signs That You’re Dating Or Married To A Crazy Bitch

FYI: a female psychiatrist who deals with men stuck in abusive relationships penned the following quiz.  Enjoy.

Here’s a quiz to find out if your wife, girlfriend or ex is an abuser:

Does she fly into rages without warning over relatively trivial matters like a web page loading too slowly?
Are you always the scapegoat/bad guy whenever she’s frustrated, disappointed or just plain bored?
Do her friends (that is, if she has any) describe her as a “drama queen?”
Does she describe herself as a drama queen? If so, congrats. You found one with a modicum of self-awareness.
Is her lipstick a little too red? Is it applied like theater makeup and a tad crooked?
Did sex begin with an earth shattering bang and fizzle into infrequent, transactional and conditional sex?
    Is she a black-and-white, all-or-nothing thinker?
Do you lie to your family, friends and colleagues about what goes on at home?
Do you find yourself making excuses to your family, friends and colleagues for her inexcusable behavior?
Do you find yourself walking on eggshells around her?
Does she hate your friends and family and become angry or tearful when you spend time with them?
    Is she pathologically jealous?
Does she project her feelings onto you? For example, she’s yelling and raging and then accuses you of being angry.
Does she focus solely on her emotional experience while exhibiting little or no empathy for yours?
Have you distanced yourself from friends and family because of your relationship?
Does she place you on a pedestal one day only to tear you down the next day? “I’ve never known anyone like you before. You’re so wonderful!” Next day: “You’re the devil! You’re the most selfish bastard I’ve ever met! You don’t love me!”
Did she change her identity after she landed you? For example, when you first met her she was a sexy, adventurous, sweet ballbuster; now, she’s afraid of her own shadow, has no outside interests and goes ballistic if she has to do anything without you.
Does she put you into “no win” situations in which nothing you do is good enough and you’re guaranteed to fail?
Does she exhibit stalker behaviors? This usually occurs during the courtship phase or when she senses you’re about to make a break for it. For instance: Calling and hanging up? Calling over and over and over until you answer the phone? Does she wait outside your home, uninvited, until you arrive? Does she show up at places she know you’ll be, also uninvited? Has she tried to get close to your friends in inappropriate ways?

If you answered “yes” to more than two of these questions, you may be involved with a female abuser. You’re not alone. They’re everywhere.

Why just those choices?  Is she comfortable with a semi-auto?  Shoots often?  How about a j-frame revolver?

I own  Shield in 9, an M&P, several Glocks, many revolvers.   What gun does my wife have?  A Charter Bulldog in .44 Spl.  As she says, pull trigger, it goes bang.  Repeat as necessary.
