No word on whether this is a jihadi attack or not, but there are three shooters reported, including one in a shopping mall. One gunman is dead, and unfortunately, so is the soldier who dropped him, a reservist from The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada who was guarding the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier.
There are three possible responses to a dispersed threat:
The status quo.
The increased centralized control and surveillance of the country as a whole and increased militarization of security forces, which hopefully results in suspects getting caught before they attack and a more robust response if they do attack.
Or an empowered and aware populace that can be their own first responders, if, God forbid, they need to respond to an attack.
Me, I know which one I prefer, as it works every time.
I'm afraid, however, that my native country of Canada will chose the second option, and that's a shame, because it won't help and will only lead to more attacks and less freedom.
