ATF backs down from M855 - SS109 ban
« on: March 10, 2015, 04:01:57 PM »
Notice to those Commenting on the Armor Piercing Ammunition Exemption Framework

Thank you for your interest in ATF's proposed framework for determining whether certain projectiles are “primarily intended for sporting purposes” within the meaning of 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(17)(C). The informal comment period will close on Monday, March 16, 2015. ATF has already received more than 80,000 comments, which will be made publicly available as soon as practicable.

Although ATF endeavored to create a proposal that reflected a good faith interpretation of the law and balanced the interests of law enforcement, industry, and sportsmen, the vast majority of the comments received to date are critical of the framework, and include issues that deserve further study. Accordingly, ATF will not at this time seek to issue a final framework. After the close of the comment period, ATF will process the comments received, further evaluate the issues raised therein, and provide additional open and transparent process (for example, through additional proposals and opportunities for comment) before proceeding with any framework.

Yes, Haz!

I noticed that when I read it this afternoon.  I also read that the 2015 published list of approved ammo had already replaced the 2014 version and M855 was not on it...

Seems they'd already made up their mind but the overwhelming uprising against the ban was too much to bare for the agency.

Time will tell, stay vigilant!

ATF will process the comments received, further evaluate the issues raised therein

By "process the comments" I assume they will investigate anyone who dared speak out against the Bureau Machine.

I can only chuckle at the "further evaluate the issues" line.
In the BS to English Dictionary, that means:  "We're going to wait until some more Dems get in power".
You can say lots of bad things about pedophiles; but at least they drive slowly past schools.

Looks like the Congress is going to have to write a bill that won't allow such "framework" in the future.

And why ban just green tip when you can ban the whole caliber?

There were 125 LEO killed in the line of duty in 2014.  47 by firearms.

This is not a major problem.

If they're banning all rifle cartridges that can be fired in a pistol they'll have to since T/C still makes a .30-30 Contender.
