Sheriff shoots Girlfriend - Words matter
« on: May 29, 2015, 10:38:06 AM »
BACKGROUND:  In N. Ga. a local sheriff shot his girl friend in what appears to be an accident.   Seems she, a realtor, was holding an open house and when there weren't any visitors, he was giving her lessons on self-defense tactics.    As soon as he shot her, he called 911, but following the sage advice given here and elsewhere, refused to talk to investigators or give a statement.  (wise move)   She's still in very serious condition and hasn't given a statement either.

SO:  Today's article said they found a FAKE TRAINING GUN.

Quote
Investigators recovered multiple guns as well as a fake training gun from the empty model home where police said a Georgia sheriff shot and critically wounded a woman, according to law enforcement documents.

Would a fake training gun then be a real gun?   I wonder if this is the same one as the blue, plastic one they found?

Anyway, he's vowed to stay on the job and is currently only indicted for reckless conduct and is free on $2,950 bond.

Just an update today on this shooting.

The victim has given a statement that backs the Sheriff's.  Accidental.

What is conjectured is that he took a blue gun to the house to train her in self defense.  She is a realtor and does open houses where she could become prey.    He may have been role playing as a perp giving her the blue gun and he was using his service pistol.

RULE #2.   NEVER, EVER, point your gun at something you're not willing to kill or destroy.

WHY?

RULE #1.  ALL guns are ALWAYS loaded.

I'm willing to bet, if he's a decent and smart guy, and if he keeps his job, he'll have something to say about firearms safety training in his department.   Nothing like an ND to really impress upon you the importance of the 3 rules.
