GSSF 2015
« on: June 03, 2015, 07:13:15 PM »
Saturday, Miss Kitty and I drove over to Montgomery, AL for the Sweet Home Alabama Glock Challenge III.

I planned to get there at noon and avoid any crowds.  Plans did not go well.  For starters they're on CDT, so duh!  It was 11am when I got there.  Plus there were 619 entries.  Not small by any stretch.  Without an abundance of ROs they shut down some bays a lunch.  So, it took three hours in some pretty heavy humidity to shoot through.

78.19 in Amateur Civilian and 95.41 in Competition.   I shot my G17 in both divisions leaving the G34 in the bag.  (Anybody want a G34?)

My goal is to get under 70.  I've been improving, but not there yet.  Based on last year's scores at this shoot I was hoping to be high Super Senior.   Well it turns out to be the Battle of the Seniors, (no funny walker pictures please)  with 8 Seniors and 5 Super Seniors on page one.

I place 14th overall but 3rd Super which means no prizes, unless I get lucky in the draw.  Now just have to wait on the prize drawings.

Good practice though for the River Bend Ballistic Challenge VII in Dawsonville, Ga in July.  I've scored my lowest there (70.27) and cleaned the targets.  Maybe this will be the year to break 70.

FO sights really work outdoors.  Especially mid-day, when you're standing under a tent but holding the gun out in the sun.  Even the RO was commenting on how stunning all the FO guns looked even from his angle.

Just because you asked and it's obviously causing you physical distress, I will come over there and remove the offending firearm from your premises. I won't even charge you as long as you throw in a couple of magazines. I have that much kindness in my heart.

<wish I could deliever the following like Mary Louise Parker did in RED when she was captured by Karl Urban>

Wow!  Such love and concern.  I'm am deeply touched.  Of course, what I really want to touch would be 23 twenty dollar bills.  Then I would possibly be moved to include one magazine and the original box, but no lock.

And because of your deep thoughtfulness I would insist that we consummate this heartfelt exchange in person.

Okay, finals results posted.   I'm 13/158 Am-Civ.  NO PRIZES.  Dag nab it.   Page 1, of 34 shooters, was the battle of the seniors with 15 out of the top 34 being either Senior or Super Seniors.

Tomorrow, 7/11, I'm off to River Bend GC for their GSSF Match.  Traditionally I've done my best shooting there.   Shot the course clean in 70.27 last year.    I'd be happy to break 70 win or not.

Back from River Bend (Dawsonville, GA) GSSF match.   Hot and tired.

Friday, messing around outside, I got stung by a wasp right between the 2nd and 3rd knuckles OF MY SHOOTING HAND!!

It was uncomfortable and stiff.  I couldn't make a fist, but I shot anyway.  Good thing, too.   I shot 68.24, my best score ever.  Only down 2 points on Glock M stage.  Should have been perfect.  I shot the 5 by Glock last and was hot, tired and irritable.  My hand was stiff, swollen and acked.   I  halfheartedly followed the RO downrange and couldn't believe it when he got the the far target and said "6 Alpha".     I wanted to go back and have him double check.  Surely there was a mistake.   I took my score sheets and immediately started tallying them up.  68.24.  WOW.

I could have done better on plates, my first three runs were under 5 seconds each, but I really choked on the 4th string with over 8 seconds.

Next goals, at the Nationals are:   Score <20 seconds on plates and overall score of less than 65.   By August first, I'll have a facility available where I can practice with real plates.  That should help tremendously.

Scores should be on the GSSF site by Wed or Thur.  I don't know how my competition, Mason Murphy, did.  He typically out shoots me by a couple of points.  Last year his score at River Bend was 64.xx.

Well this is embarrassing.   My spreadsheet had a little error and I only scored 70.24.   Dag-nab-it.

The scores are out for River Bend (Dawnsonville).   But they have some errors, too.  They have me at 70.15 and forgot my super senior.  Also got my Competition score off by 10 points.

Nice thing is, you send them an email and they'll correct it.

So, baring other peoples scores being out of wack, I finished 17/274.    2nd place Super Senior.  Mason Murphy really did well, to take first.   Practice, practice, practice.  High Amateur score was 57.08.

Just received the Glock Report a few days ago come to find out they have a new Indoor match this year that is about a 1 hour drive away from me. But 2 of three matches have already happen. :(
But I just may shoot the last one next month in Westfield, IN. just for the heck of it.
I should be shooting the Match today in Atlanta, IN. but I the grandkids are here and want to go to the last day of our county fair.
There is room for all of God's creatures ....., That would be on my plate right next to the taters and gravy.

I've had grands hanging around all weekend.  I have to remember it is important to spend time with them when I can now.  Later, I'll be to senile or they'll be too busy.

The GSSF National 2015

BIG NEWS ABOUT THE NATIONAL MATCH!!!

I didn't go.  I wanted to go.  I planned on it.   Had the shooting bag loaded and on the counter the night before.

It was my wife's "fall break" from school.   I was suppose to shoot 3 matches in 7 days.

First match was a local rogue action pistol match at my new club on Saturday, 9/19.  CHECK.  Did that.    My first time out shooting my 627 with .38SC.  Came in 4th (out of 4) revo shooters.  It was fun and challenging, though.  Some IDPA and some USPSA mixed together.

Second match was suppose to be during the week at Yulee, FL.  We were vaca on Amelia Island and a local range was suppose to have a USPSA match mid-week.   They changed the match date from mid-week to Saturday so that didn't happen.

We came back to Atlanta on Friday and I was suppose to shoot the GSSF National on Saturday, at SOUTH RIVER GC where it's always been held.   I was feeling a little exhausted as the Friday drive proved to be long and tiring (rain and wrecks - not mine) for an old geezer.  So Saturday morning I didn't go.   GOOD THING.   I didn't bother to read the match directions.   South River had declined to sponsor the match and it had been moved to Griffin GC.  Boy would I have been ticked to drive 90 minutes to the wrong range.

No tales of conquest this year. My Super Senior competitor Mason Murphy appears to have won that category with a 69.34.   I have worked hard the last month on plates and I think I could have given him a run for his money.  But given my exhaustion and the fact I would have been at the wrong range, it's as well I didn't try to go.   On the bright side, my work calendar has been cleared for the February match in Griffin next year.
