S&W Quiz - I think there's an error and I won't let it go.
« on: June 20, 2015, 07:53:45 PM »
Scouten posted a link to an on-line quiz about S&W, which I would have aced but I think there is an error.

One question (and the Q# changes around) is about whether a gun is a SW 317 Kit gun or a Model 18.

The quiz says it's a model 317.   I say they're wrong and the best of the multi choice answers is M18.

A 317 is:
  • An 8 shot.
  • Is made of aluminum alloy frame, cylinder and shroud.
  • Has at most a 3" barrel.
  • Says "Airlite" or formerly "Airweight" on the side plate.

The gun pictured is:
  • A 6 shot
  • Blue frame
  • Has at least a 4" barrel
  • Has a blank side plate

I didn't think I knew much about S&W but that was the only one I missed too.

You didn't miss it Frank, it was an error.  Scouten posted an update on his FB page acknowledging I was correct.

The problem is that on Wikipedia a picture of a Model 34 was posted to show the linage of the 317, but a lot of people probably didn't read the details.

So that question should be thrown out as the picture is neither a 317 nor an 18, but a M34.

I can rest easy now, I've been vindicated.

I may not be a S&W expert, but I do own The Book.

8/9 is a perfect score on this quiz.

I got 7/9 and I've never been enough of a S&W fan (sorry Alf) to bother knowing many details about the models and types....of course, some questions anyone should know, like the Dirty Harry one and S&W founders.

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison
