You might want to check out

http://classicshell.net/

I use this a LOT. It is a shell that is free for personal use that gives to the same look and feel of Windows 7 or XP when running later versions of Windows. I have used it on 8 and 10. It is small, does not slow down the computer, and will load automaticly once installed. It has solved a LOT of my issues with Windows 10.

They're giving it away to some of us with Win 7 or 8.

That should tell you everything you need to know right there. I get pop ups for it most every day. I close them out as fast as they come up.

I like windows 7.   8 and 8.1 were a joke.    I would run xp if I could.

So would I. It was the best version of Windows ever.

Careful, they can install an annoying start up tray icon.  Took me a month to rid my system of it...

I have Windows 7 and do Windows updates every day. When there was a Windows 10 update for me I hid it and have never had a Windows 10 popup. No start tray icon for it either. I'm waiting to see if Windows 11 or 12 is any good. Hopefully my PC will last that long.

The popup gets initialized each time Win 7 is started and often after it is running.

You can use Task Manager to end task GWX...but it will restart with the next boot and often while the computer is still running.

Here is a link to uninstall the update that started the whole thing.  Hide the update after wards or manually check the updates and don't let it get installed again

I just checked my hidden updates. I thought Windows 10 was in there but it's not. It was an optional update that I declined somehow. I just don't know how. I think it showed up on my task bar once but I never saw a trace of it since.

I just stopped all automatic updates and downloads..... I have it check manually and then pick what I want it to do.

Well, my opinion is that I don't get anything for 10 and that Microsoft and data hogs get more info on me.

If you don't want Windows 10 to install itself on a Windows 7 or 8.1 computer download this file at Never10 and click on the "Disable Win10 Upgrade" button. That's all there is to it and you don't have to install any new software or anything like that. If you decide you do want Widows 10 you do the same thing with the "Enable Win10 Upgrade" button. https://www.grc.com/never10.htm
