Thank You

To all of my fellow forum members who were or are current members of the armed forces, I would like to say Thank you for everything you did or are doing in defense of our nation.

You're welcome. If I said it was a pleasure I'd be lying but I think it builds character. After being a vet for 30 years I finally decide to take advantage of it yesterday. I got some free food and a card to get a free haircut. It's nice to be thanked and feel appreciated.

Drove a Korea Vet (85-years old in December) from his nursing home to Applebee's where they offer free lunches to Vets.

We both had fried shrimp.

I was impressed by the numbers of young people who made it a point to say, "Thank you for your service."

Had a chance to talk to a couple of fellow Vietnam Vets and and my buddy found another Korea vet.  All in all, it was a nice day for a couple of old curmudgeons.  Certainly was different from my return from Vietnam.

Hi;

     It was the best of times , it was the worst of times. I keep telling these Iraq and Afganistan Vets to join the Legion and VFW and Amvets - for when the Gov't and People no longer consider them "hero's" they will see cuts in funding to take care of them when they need it the most.

     It happened before and will happen again !

I know I'm not alone but I shake dozens of Vets hands every week.

I find it one of the more rewarding things I can do though it's really just a small thing.  Shook the hand of a WWII Vet sitting in his walker last week and he just beamed!

God Bless them all...

Thank you too. Like my dad said you can not pay me enough for the memories. Lot of bad ones and a few good ones. On cold winter days he would look out the window and say it is bitter out there but not Korea bitter. I did not understand until I got back and I told my troops its hot but not Iraq hot.
