9 MM Ammo Price
« on: December 27, 2015, 08:18:25 AM »
Wideners has 9MM, 115gr brass for sale $9.50/box.  That's $190/1000 which is the best price I've seen on new 9MM ammo in years.

Someone here may have $$$'s to buy some.  Wish I did.

I was in wally-mart for an item last week (one of the few times I go into the place) and they had a better selection than December of last year, but still nothing to write home about. They had 9mm aluminum cased for $9 and change....so the same for brass is very good, IMHO.

That almost makes me want to buy a 9mm because .45s are too expensive to feed.

The last time I bought factory .45 ACP, it was $24 per fifty, IF anyone had it in stock.
Local stores are still short on supply, but online at places like Sportsman's Guide they have several brands in stock in the $15-$17 range per fifty.

Not optimal, but indeed better than it was.

Dang.  You got me looking at 45 prices....last bulk I got was way back June 2014.  It was Privi 230 grain ball for $17.95 a box at Wideners.

Then I got to looking around at my orders and heck, I haven't been shooting or training for pretty much two years now.  No wonder I've been so messed up as of late.

That almost makes me want to buy a 9mm because .45s are too expensive to feed.

One of the biggest reasons I own a 9mm.  Even casting my own bullets, 9mm uses a bit more than half the lead.  Lead can be a significant expense, if, like me, you are setting up a run of several thousand rounds.  My 9mm rounds cost about 7.5 cents per round, .45 ACP would run about 11 cents per round due to increased powder and lead tests.

In terms of cost per box, I can load 9mm for $3.75 per box, while .45 ACP would cost me $5.50 per box.  That means that My cost per thousand is $75.00 and $110.00 respectively.  I do not think that I have ever done a production run of less than 4k rounds - for which the cost difference is $140.00.

These figures do not take into account the difference in the cost of brass, even once fired brass.  I was able to buy great many empties at a range that sold brass at $3.00/lb.  Again, .45ACP brass is much more costly.

My 9mm reloads, 124gr, copper plated, run me 13 cents each.   Nineteen cents is attractive.
