Tracing Firearm Purchases ?
« on: January 03, 2016, 08:10:44 AM »
There is a website called "Been Verified" that say's they can tell you if a person owns a weapon or not. I'm not a member, but I don't see how this is even possible, let alone accurate? Even a 4473 form isn't that traceable unless you are a member of law enforcement, and have the make and model of the gun, along with the serial number to trace back to the manufacturer. And even then, the gun could have been sold, stolen, or traded, and be on it's forth or fifth owner by then. Or not even exist for that matter. If it was a personal cash purchase, say at a gun show or flea market, or else from a private party, there is no way.

About the only way I could see this happening, is if it was a new gun purchased by credit card. I know credit card companies sell and or give out purchasing information to advertisers to see what people are into buying. But credit card numbers change all the time, and new accounts opened and old ones closed. That would also lead to a lot of dead ends. Also again, the gun could have been sold to another party. What am I missing here? Or is this straight up advertising bull$h!t?

It isn't possible. To many private sales.

I looked at the been verified site and didn't see anything about weapons. I looked up my neighbor but didn't want to pay a membership fee to see what they said about him. I used a different site, michiganvoters.info, to find my ex wife. They have a list of all registered voters in the state. I checked that site to see if my neighbor was there and I couldn't find him at his correct address.

I should have included the link. Sorry.

I'm going to say they can't track all guns.  I've gotten rid of some lemons at the gun show and no one's found me yet!  :-X

I have actually been working with the BATFE about tracing some serial numbers on guns my grandfather purchased so that I can get them back.  have had nothing but good exp with them actually, spent 45 mins bs with one.

long story short, i have some family memebers that should be in jail, but are not.

the dealer he bought them from, was actually raided and shut down by them, so it helped a bunch in tracking down the serial numbers on them.

i only care about one of the guns, because it was the gun i shot my 1st duck with,  the rest are just steal and metal.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.
