Baghdad (AFP) - Iraq is building a three-metre-high security wall and trench defences around Baghdad in an effort to thwart jihadist attacks, a security official said on Thursday.

The time for action is upon us and the enemy is at our gates. Let us not allow them one more inch of advancement but instead throw them through the gates of Hell.

It would cost....

And we'll see if theirs works.

The article mentioned that security was lax in the city...with guards often missing cars loaded with explosives at road check point...

Without adequate security, all it will take is an extension ladder to get over the wall.

We would need heavy electronic security to alert of an attempted breach and a very quick response team to stop runners...

Just get the mostly conservative Catholic Hispanic illegals to vote Republican. There would be a wall that would make Berlin jealous, even if they had to short Planned Parenthood to pay for it.

I say we missed the best chance for a border solution back in late 2005 when hurricane Katrina ruined New Orleans.
We should have started digging a canal, deep and wide, along the southern border of Texas and moved westward......then used the dirt to bury New Orleans.

I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

I think you have the solution, Tom...

It's not about the height of the wall or a moat.  It is about how deep the foundation goes and the electronic devices.  The largest threats to our security are in tunnels stories below the surface.  The threats are also flowing through the gates on highways, airports, and harbors.  Building a fence is more feel good than effective.

The tunnels would not be that much of a problem.
I've just been reading Caesar's "Commentaries" and they used "Sappers and Miners" even back then.
They used to set out bowls of water to detect under ground work.
We can now do a bit better than that.  ;D

Why can't we do this?

Because "we" don't want to.

( By "we" I don't mean the we on this board)

I have always favored deportation by trebouche. Every Saturday we take all the illegals that ICE has rounded up, and have a big picnic, BBQ, whatever. Live bands, beer garden, horseshoe pit. And for the main event we hurl illegals back into Mexico over the Rio Grande. Fun for the whole family!
