I've never played with oxygen and acetylene but read about one guy that did. He was making "bag bombs" out of garbage bags. He made one too big and it put him through a garage wall.  :o

If mixed in the right ratio, it can make quite a boom and concussion.
The first time I saw it done was in my HS metal-fab class. The teacher did a safety demonstration with a 6oz plastic coffee cup. He punched a hole in the bottom of the cup and turned it bottom side up on a welding table. He set the regulators on the proper ratio for cutting, stuck the cutting tip in the hole, and put a one-second burst from each line in the cup. Then he lit the torch (away from the cup) and then waved the flame over the open hole on the cup. It was louder than a 12 ga shotgun and the concussion rattled windows in classrooms all along the vo-tech wing....people were coming out into the halls to see what the heck was going on. He told us that was why you always close the tank valves when you get done cutting in enclosed areas.

I had used torches on our farm many times before.....and went into a job later that required their regular use for the next 20 years....and I always remembered that lesson when in enclosed areas.

One of life’s greatest teachers is experience.   Never, never ignore those lessons or you will relive them.

Something the liberals do not seem able to understand.

For a window shattering bang, light an oxyacetylene torch, and tune it to a lean flame with a small bright blue tip. Then extinguish it by pressing it against a piece of steel. Fill a small party balloon with the escaping gas to the size of a large potato and tie it off....... NO LARGER! Tape a lit cigarette to the end of a long stick, and touch it to the balloon. Wear ear plugs!

blow guns are a felony in ca.

Yet blow jobs are a common occurrence in most California city parks.

Then we have the fun with "Spud guns", and other forms of compressed air cannon.

After WWII ended, my late uncle came home from the Pacific Theater and went to work for Lockheed in SoCal.  He told me this merry tale of adventure in the 1960s.

Searching for a way to alleviate the boredom of a 9-5, post-war, regular job, he and his buddies struck a fine flame on an oxyacetylene  torch, "kicked it out" with a boot, and fastened a common balloon over the tip.  They filled the balloon to capacity, (about a 12"-14" sphere) tied it off, and placed it under a cardboard box.  They then made a "fuse" of newspaper long enough to give themselves time to vacate the immediate area, and lit it.

Uncle Jack said the ensuing ear-ringing boom caused quite a stir at the Lockheed facility, breaking windows and rattling airplane hangers for quite a distance.  Fortunately, there was no Facebook or similar, so they managed to keep their collaboration secret.

A teenaged pal and I may or may not have tried a similar experiment on a smaller scale with a much reduced volume of gas--maybe a 4"-5" sphere.  If that actually happened behind my pal Dennis' dad's shop, it might have sounded like a pair M-80s.  And it could have scared two teenage boys enough that they left the area and hid out until dinner time.  I'm just sayin"...

This is the same principal these Calcium Carbide Cannons worked when we were kids. A little Calcium Carbide with a little water and bingo, you have Acetylene gas. All it took was an ignition source and you had the big bang those cannons were famous for.

Shredded MRE heaters in a Gatorade bottle with a little water used to make a big noise....but it was hard to time because it was dependent on the weakest spot in the bottle.

One of our neighbor's sons came home on leave from the USAF back in December and wanted to pop some tannerite. This video is 15 lbs shot about 150 yards behind our son's house. The video never does justice to the boom or concussion.
