Would the CIA do this?

I don't want to sound like a tin foil hat guy or one watching for black unmarked choppers but I came across this article regarding the C.I.A. and operation MOCKINGBIRD to create a biased media to do their bidding. Anyone else hear of this or similar "operations" and can this be real. I now that sounds childish but considering how these elections are going I am beginning to wonder. The article is at:

I knew about it right after WWII but did not think it was still active. Seems that a few reporter in Europe are starting to admit to this.

CIA has been using, and manipulating media since it's beginnings, who do you think started "Radio Free Europe" and "Voice of America" ?
When you hear reports of the CIA meddling in foreign elections most of the activity is planting news stories and op-ed pieces.

I guess my "concern" is are they doing to the United States as well as Europe? And if so to what end? Is it controlled by POTUS? etc...

I doubt they are operating in the US media.
Most of their assets are PRO American an would not be able to get jobs here.

Tom is right.  You would have thought they'd have thrown some of the pols who were gunning for them under the bus...but it did not happen.  Remember Pelosi or Boxer...one of them was running their mouth back when and nothing happened....
