Inaugural GA ICORE Match
« on: April 10, 2016, 12:50:48 PM »
They blame it on me for stirring things up at River Bend Gun Club, but that's all I did.  A couple of RO's jumped on the idea and formed the  Georgia ICORE club.  We're official and have had our first match.   We had 14 shooters, 5 of which were Classic shooters.  The rest Limited.    The organizers really went all out and got Ruger to sponsor a banner and some door prizes.  We all got Ruger hats.   I think Ruger is really trying to make inroads into ICORE.   I think we had one or two, Rugers.   Most shot S&W of course and a few Colt snakes.

The "club" is going to run 6 matches and the purpose is to prepare us for IRC, since it's in FL.   Each match they're going to try to do at least one stage from a prior IRC and two classifiers to prepare everyone who want to participate.

How'd I do?  Well how about 6th overall and 1st in Classic.  Need to work on my reloads.  That and in stage one, I felt I did so bad on the middle three targets, I reloaded and shot them all over again.   Just did.  Killed my time on the stage, but I felt better about putting them down.

Bill Drill x3 was 16.01 sec with 1 sec penalty.    It you want to see the all the ugly details:

Part of stage one include 6 plates, and yes there were no-shoots behind the first and last one.  Miss and you got 5 points down.   This isn't me, but as the honorary pot stirer-upper, I got to shoot first on each stage, so I really didn't get to set up my camera to take a pictures of me.

Nice work ALF!  I'm not a revolver guy, but I may be looking for a 357 in the next year or two (reloading components someone donated to me  ;) )  Not that I will be shooting any ICORE matches, I haven't made it to a USPSA match in 6 months  ::), but it would be another tool in the training closet and something to have on hand for new shooters.

Had our second match on Saturday.   15 brave wheel gunners.

Joe and Peggy Blivins from Orlando drove all the way up, 7+ hours, to shoot with us.  Of course they were making a long weekend by visiting the N. GA mountains Saturday pm and Sunday before heading back.

We managed 6 stage with 2 classifiers.

You know that great feeling that you shot really well?  And that deflated feeling are after they post the scores?  Yep.   8th overall, but not shabby by who beat me.  My gunsmith, Andy Ferris, was there and took 1st Classic away from me.  Of course he's only 28yo, so one would hope he'd do gooder than me.

One of the things I dislike about ICORE and USPSA is how they try to keep the top score in their classifiers secret.   They are about the only sports I know where you have no idea what it takes to "win".  Anyway, I tried to see if there was a "cheat" site for ICORE like there is for USPSA, but no luck.  I started looking up shooters on ICORE to see what other's had done.  Sort of hit and miss.  Didn't find these classifiers under a classic shooter.  What I did find interesting is that the entire Miculek family were only yearly members of ICORE and they've let their membership expire.

Here's the score sheet if anyone's interested.  It'll probably take a week or two before I know my new classification, if any.

So we've gotten several matches under out belts.  15 regular, hardy folks.

I scored poorly overall last week in theAugust match, but my one very bright shining spot was cleaning the plates stage.  Six 8" falling plates @12yds.   In the middle of the bay was a 2'x3' plate @20yds.  Then on the right side of the bay are 6 bowling pin sized falling plates.   Cleaned them with no make ups.  3rd fastest.   Picture shows round plates on right, but trust me they were bowling pin shape.  Not blazing fast but 28.56.

We did Classifier CS-007 and I did get a video of me shooting this.   5 shots freestyle, 5 shots strong hand, 5 shots weak hand.  Note on my reload I dropped a round, you can barely see it fall in front of the speed loader.  Only 5 rounds, no big deal, except I didn't know when that empty would crop up.  Hence the hesitation on target 4 with strong hand.   YES, I did flinch.    Don't ask me what the first shot hesitation was.

And our youngest shooter, a 3 gun girl, is Lizzie, 11yo this month.  She's comfortable with gun handling and is working on accuracy and reloading. Reason she shoots revolvers is the grips are smaller.  She'll transition to semi's in 3 gun  when her hands are larger.

Great shooting!! I believe you all have done a great job with those matches, as running them is not easy.
