I got up around 4:30 AM yesterday morning to take the dog out, and this is what was in the eastern sky. At first I thought it was the contrail from a missile shot from White Sands New Mexico. We've had those before. I could even see them when we lived in Lake Havasu City.
But after watching the morning news, they confirmed it to be a contrail left from a meteor fireball. There were several videos of it they showed lighting up the sky like it was daytime. It came around 4:00 AM local time. Some say they heard a large boom, but I never heard a thing. Not even the dog budged, and he was sleeping next to me.
I don't know how high the contrails are, but they have to be several miles high because you can clearly see the Sun hitting them, and it hasn't even risen yet. They said it got all bent out of shape because of the high winds aloft. Probably the only time in my life I'll ever get to see something like that. I wished I'd been out there a half hour earlier when it hit. Pretty cool!
