Tom you have a point.  A lot of commercial rounds in 308 optimize velocity on a 20-21 inch barrel.  This helped me remember that I got the long barrel so I could have a machine shop friend trim it down to accurize it if I got a stinker.

Alf brings up a good option with the FNAL. 

Actually, I didn't.    There is a difference between the FNAL and the FNAR.   The latter is a lot less expensive and is based on the Browning Auto Rifle, hunting rifle not the machine gun, design. 

I wanted an FNAL but couldn't see the $ for it.
