I think it was a good idea.  It may not have much effect, however, after the mishandeling of the Katrina situation by the gov.  this was a fair attempt by the GOP to show they were somewhat socially minded instead of focusing only on the political race.  A small gesture, granted, but a gesture none the less.

Like the old saying goes " any publicitcy is good publicity ". Starting on Friday at around 9am in the morning until today (and I suspect for the rest of the week), the republicans have DOMINATED the news cycle. To my eye they have just knocked Obama and crew off the stage. That is good. I think yesterday was a good move, a compassionate move and it didn't allow the Dems to beat them up on the charge that "just like George Bush" they don't care about poor black folks in New Orleans. If they had gone on with the storm raging we would not have heard the end of it. Thank the lord that the storm fizzled a bit, the damage is great but the deaths I think are under 10, about what every other hurricane takes from us. So now they can go on with the convention.

Wow! The MSNBC(D) commentators are in an extra vile mood tonight during their pre-convention coverage. Me thinks we wont be seeing any Keith Olbermann (D) post speech orgasms like we did during the DNC convention.

Fred Thompson for Something in 2008!

Quote
We hear a lot of talk about hope.
John McCain knows about hope. That’s all he had to survive on.

Quote
Now, being a POW certainly doesn’t qualify anyone to be President.
But it does reveal character.

Quote
This is the kind of character that civilizations from the beginning of history have sought in their leaders.
Strength.
Courage.
Humility.
Wisdom.
Duty.
Honor.

Quote
My friends … that is character you can believe in.

Quote
To deal with these challenges the Democrats present a history making nominee for president.
History making in that he is the most liberal, most inexperienced nominee to ever run for President. Apparently they believe that he would match up well with the history making, Democrat controlled Congress. History making because it’s the least accomplished and most unpopular Congress in our nation’s history.

Quote
Now our opponents tell you not to worry about their tax increases.
They tell you they are not going to tax your family.
No, they’re just going to tax “businesses”! So unless you buy something from a “business”, like groceries or clothes or gasoline … or unless you get a paycheck from a big or a small “business”, don’t worry … it’s not going to affect you.
They say they are not going to take any water out of your side of the bucket, just the “other” side of the bucket! That’s their idea of tax reform.

Quote
And we need a President who doesn’t think that the protection of the unborn or a newly born baby is above his pay grade.

Thompson was good, and the Reagan tribute was as well. At least McCain won't stop me from buying the XCR I want, and ban whatever he can with Biden the Worthless.

Leiberman has cohonas to be there, and when he rejected his party to become independent, that accounts for something.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

He is still pro choice..... I dont support that...... and he has many other typical democratic stances as well.

Exit Question: For this being a gun forum, there sure are a lot of political posts (handguns: 4,614 Posts in 284 Topics; Politics  6,373 Posts in 597 Topics). Is it just because it is an election year?

I think we're just smart enough to know without the proper political outcome we won't need a gun forum anymore.
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

Probably..
and the fact that this is THE most important election in history I would say. And another fact of being that IF this election doesn't go our way.. a gun "forum" is ALL we will have left.. cause the B-HO SOB will be working his ass off in taking our guns...and our gun rights away.
THAT is probably why there is a lot of political issues right now.

Next question?   ;D
