Reloading 147gr. 9mm
« on: March 18, 2017, 08:17:38 AM »
I'm going to try 147 gr. 9mm bullets on my next purchase of components , I have been using 115 gr a few shooting friends seem to like the 147's for plates and steel. Any experience will be appreciated as I know this bunch on the forum has lots of knowledge.  ::)
There is room for all of God's creatures ....., That would be on my plate right next to the taters and gravy.

Some say the 147's shoot softer than the 115 at the same pf 130-135.  You have to make the decision for yourself.  I'm too old to tell the difference.  Recoil is recoil in the 9.

I started hand loading in the late 70's when I took up IHMSA metallic silhouette...my perception was that for handgun bullets the longer bearing surface in contact with the rifling produced more accurate bullets (at handgun velocities and distances) provided that the base of the bullet did not get burned off ( my preference for the Winchester ball process powders that burn cooler and protect the base)... when I switched from the 1911 .45acp platform to the Glock 9mm platform, I continued this thought process... a conversation with Brian Enos when I briefly shot a .40SW in the G35 acquainted me with Winchester Super Field (WSF) , and when I switched to the G17 and later G34 pistols stuck with WSF for propellant... I currently shoot Bayou coated 135s with a load of 3.6 of WSF.... 1.130 oal... the 135's  out of the G34 (Briley barrel) I get a 130 pf, and out of the 16" PCC a 146pf... I was shooting a 4.2 load of WSF with Precision Delta 147s for a mid 130's power factor in the G34, but have settled for only one  loading for both the PCC and the G34
