Coattail tax thread
« on: March 25, 2017, 09:20:50 AM »
Reading TAB's  tax thread leads me to this one,

I have been trying to convince people to look at taxes a different way.  It takes me 5 months and 18 days to earn enough to pay Federal, State, Local, Social Security, and Medicare taxes.  It takes another 3 weeks and 3 days to pay my property taxes.  Just over 6 months a year I'm working to give my hard earned money to someone else.  I effectively only get to enjoy half of what I earn.

I have no idea how long I have to work to pay Sales Taxes.  If we could get people to look at taxes this way, we might could get some real change started.

If not, we will continue to be slaves to the .gov for half of our lives.

You want to see taxes drop ?
Limit the vote to people who actually PAY property, income, and business taxes.
If you aren't paying the tab you get no say in how it's spent.
No more tax exemption for churches, assess them the same as every one else then credit them for charitable spending such as soup kitchens.

Good Ideas, Tom.

Would renters get credit for property tax?

I really do like this idea.  I'm thinking it would be labeled a poll tax by the courts and ruled  unconstitutional.

reality, non profits for the most part are garbage....

my $.02 on taxes...

adjust taxes based on how much they put into the econ.

example  2  business men.

both do the same job and make the same.

1  works for himself and puts very little money out there.

the other has 3 employees,  pays them well and is constantly upgrading.

who should pay less tax?    IMO the guy that is pumping money back into the econ.

.

Would depend on the "rental" I suppose.
Some one with an apt in Trump Tower ? Hell yeah.
Living in some section 8  rent controlled place ? Probably not.

Funny thing is that only property owners were allowed a say in adopting the Constitution.

This is a key issue.  Renters pay property tax, but since it's hidden in their rent they don't realize the ramifications of their vote.  The just scream about greedy landlords when rent increases.

If I were renting out housing I would break it down on their monthly statement:. Base rent, property tax, special assessments, regular assessments (recycling, garbage, etc).  The lease would read that base rent would be negotiated annually, and other items would automatically be adjusted as put in place.

This the base behind the Capital Gain Tax rate.  A reward for investing back into the economy.  Think about the CEO compensated with company stock.  His compensation is tied to the success of the company.  He is compensated with stock, and he sells the stock for his income, or he lives off the dividend.  Either way he is rewarded through the tax code for taking this risk, and when he benefits those tied to his success also benefit.
