There is a reason the Obama Senate staff was made welcome at the Chicago ATF Division office for familiarization with the Agencies current firearm enforcement programs and priorities. There is a reason why last May, the same Special Agent in Charge welcomed Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr., and staff, for a show and tell on the range with "illegal" guns. There is a reason why the Joyce Foundation, the Children's Memorial Research Center and the Legal Community Against Violence members were given a hands on opportunity to fire "assault weapons" and pretend to be ATF Agents making a forced entry on a dwelling.
The ATF supervisors' agenda is likely just anticipated additional Congressional funding.. and self-promotion. Both are long standing behaviors of successful bureaucrats. The real concern is the gearing up of the attendees to spring into action as soon as Obama throws them the keys to the Federal Gun Control Corvette.
Federal agencies have an absolute duty to walk a line of objectivity when it comes to avoiding political entanglements. There are many instances where ATF has earnestly worked with the NRA and NSSF to resolve regulatory and enforcement issues for the benefit of all concerned. You may have even had a chance to ask them a question or two at the SHOT show or NRA Convention.
If they were listening, I would caution them to exercise good judgment in the providing of information as opposed to currying political favor. The first policy leads to long life and Agency prosperity, the second leads to the fate of all traitors to the Constitution.
