Kennesaw...
« on: January 24, 2018, 07:46:56 AM »
Probably 25 years ago or so, Kennesaw, GA ripped the nervous systems out of every shadow-scared anti-gunner in the nation by requiring that every home in town have a firearm, therein. (They wrote the law to give anybody an out who wanted one, but still!)
I moved to Kennesaw 4 years ago, and as a relatively urban area, I was profoundly surprised to discover that there was NO RANGE in Kennesaw!
That's about to change! Governors Gun Club is opening a nice one just up the road a bit. Indoor shotgun clay/skeet range. 100 yd indoor rifle range, that (I think) will accommodate 50 BMG. Don't hold me to the caliber but I've heard it rumored. I'm a member of that club, though to date, the range is about 45 minutes away, in Powder Springs. Nice range. A little disorganized as far as admin goes, at times.
So, Alf, are you a member? Are you ready?
Anybody else in the area waiting for the place to finally open?

It would strike me as odd that a place that required every home have a firearm wouldn't have a place to shoot said firearm  ???

Glad to hear their is one in the works.  I've never heard of an Indoor Skeet/Clay range  8)

My gun club is in the process of getting permits to put in a 300, 600 and 1000 yard range on some newly aquired property.  It has been a few years in making, politicians and neighbors  :( , but once it is in, it will be pretty cool-no other ranges at those distances with a couple of hours (except the Elks range 30 minutes away and you have to close the whole thing down to shoot ~600 yards IIRC)

I sent them an email a month back and didn't get a reply.   Drove by last week and the sign says to inquire inside.  So I did.

Good news:

Very impressive.  33 trapsmacines. One set of skeet houses.  3 one hundred yard tubes with electronic scoring.
2 pairs of pistol ranges.  Beautiful club facilities, with 3 dining areas.  Wine lockers

Bad news:

Only steel shot allowed.  Must buy their ammo for trap and skeet.  They claim it's a lead dust removal problem with such a massive space.
All the "club" facilities, half the pistol ranges, and the dining rooms are only available to the country club set.  ~$900 down & $750/year.
You can of course just pay to shoot per visit.  And there are yearly shooting, no club privileges, packages.
No set opening date.  I'd guess April.  Maybe March.

They didn't offer any significant discount for early signup.  I'll wait till after they're open and pay to shoot with the common folk.

Will work for ammo

The city  of Kennesaw was a small municipality in Cobb County when they passed the law.  At time Cobb had probably 4 indoor ranges, just none actually in the city limits.

Same here. It sounds good.

Yeah, their communication/absence thereof sucks.
I've been a "non-high Dollar" member for a year and a half now.
It's a little more laid back than Sandy Springs, but NOT unsafe, like some of the other ranges in the vicinity. Lots less traffic between here and there (Powder Springs), too. The restaurant there cooks entirely on a few Big Green Eggs. No idea what they do back there. Not worth the extra $ to find out.

Comm may never be any good. I've gotten REAL specific with owner(s) and employees alike and even advance warning doesn't get you a call when your new acquisition comes in. Prices are locally competitive unless you use Gunbroker.
Their guy in charge of inventory says Feb 14th or 15th, but given how long the place has been "just around the corner", I'm not holding my breath.

Anyway, there it is... "Gun City USA" finally has a range.. (And it's less than 10 minutes away!)

I believe you are invited to stop back every day...or a few times a day if time permits... =)

I am so remiss.   You've been here 4 years already and we haven't met-up.   My fault.

I'm thinking an upcoming Friday for lunch.   Maybe at Adv Outdoors grill.  Or where ever you desire up your way.   Want to shoot for 2/16?
