Problem with forum going too slow

I've been having a problem with the forum lately that I never had before. When I try to post or edit a post I already made, more often than not I have to sit wait a bit and it still doesn't work. It takes me to a page where I get a message that the connection has been reset, the site might be down or have too much traffic. I hit the back button on my browser and it goes back like its supposed to, then I try again and the same thing happens. Then I try a third time and either it works, tells me I already posted that, or says someone made a post while I was typing (and it was me). When I click on the link above the post I have trouble going back to the page too. When I preview a post it's slower too but usually works. I also have a problem getting from one page to another, like when I want to see another topic. Anyone else having this problem or have an idea why I am?

I've never had a problem quite like this on any other forum. There's a place that pays me to do surveys that's timing out when I try to use the forum, but not when I do the surveys, check my reward points or my profile, etc. On the only other forum that I'm still on, I click the button and it goes to the other page, usually in a second or less. I have Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1 with the latest version of Firefox, both updated every day. I just went to www.speedtest.net and checked 3 times. My download speed is 72 Mbps (I'm paying for 60 Mbps), and my upload speed is 6 Mbps, so both are still at the usual speed. I'm using about 3% of my CPU and 2/3 of my memory (hundreds of movies and TV shows. Shh, don't tell anyone.)

Here also...not just with posting, but trying to open the updated topics......I've started using a separate tab for the Forum and doing other stuff while it tries to load.

Whew! I thought it was just me. The problem has be the site itself, but if I find a way to speed things up on our end I'll let you know. With 150 people online at a time it's slower than molasses in January, but my second favorite forum is fast with 2,000 people on at a time. I thought about disabling all of my add-ons or doing the same on Chrome and trying it, but I may have already done that last month.

At first I thought it was me, but other forums weren't slow.

Just very slow responding.

One reason I don't spend a lot of time on THR or S&W or Accurate Reloading or AR15 is they are So.o.o.o.o busy, but I may have found one that's only in GA that's busier.

A group started a forum called, The Outdoors Trader.   It's aimed mainly at GA residents and was primarily created for the Classified section, but it has all sort of other chat rooms.   I've used it to sell some things and it's really  a great local asset.  As you can tell, the founders left the name open so they could duplicate the site in other states.  In fact for all I know they already have. 

Anyway right now on Sunday afternoon there are 650 users on-line.  BUT the level of activity is unbelievable.   I "mark all message as read" and it immediately comes back with 14 new ones.  My estimate is it averages 500 messages an hour.   Now granted most are in the "For Sale" area, but it's hard to wade past those to see what the "chat" rooms have going.

Guess what - Went to leave this thread after my post and edits, and everything stopped, and I got a 503 message page.

Went to another site, came back, and zip bang boom, everything is fast.

This ought to make Marshal pull his hair out ... both of them  ;D

I think I had problems with it when I got back from taking the month of July off for vacation. You shouldn't have time to fix a snack or get a drink and use the bathroom before it goes from one page to another, but sometimes I do.
