Spotting Scope Question
« on: May 10, 2007, 07:27:23 AM »
I'm thinking of buying a spotting scope.  I want to be able to see .22 holes at 100 yards.  My 3x9 rifle scopes won't do it and neither does my 25x50 Binocs so what am I looking for in a spotting scope?

I would think the 60-90 zooms would work well. I use one for .30 caiber at 200m.

Check out Todd Spotti's articles on sport optics.  He has some suggestions that might be worth thinking about.  I would like to see one of the 90mm Weavers.  It is not your traditional scope but it might work real well.

I use a Kowa 80mm with a 27mm L.E.R. Also have a 20 X 60 eye piece for the long stuff.

Kowa has one nice piece of glass.  I don't think you could find better.  I'm wondering if you could spend a lot less to get satisfactory performance.

Why yes you can. I know there are some scopes out there that will use Kowa eye pieces. One is Cstar, another is Smith and Wesson and I know there is one other out there but I just can't remember the name. These are 80mm scopes and I've seen them rite next to the Kowa. These scopes come with  a 20x60 zoom eye piece. We had a Kowa with a 27 LER. Looked through both then swopted eye pieces. The Cstar was just a litte darker with both pieces but not enuff to make a differance.
