Prayers and thoughts to those in Coastal Texas.
« on: September 12, 2008, 09:25:08 PM »
As a person who has gone through a hurricane or "5" , just a quick post to hope that the Galveston/Houston area hangs in there, as the sea wall is already being "overwashed", and like New Orleans, is a sea-level, and below, town.

The storm is 600 miles wide, with a 60 mile eye wall. The forecast is 75 to 100 mph winds for 12 to 14 hours due to Ike's size and speed.

Storm surge is over 20 feet, and for those that don't live at the coast, mother nature rules the roost,. The ocean shows no mercy in a storm, and I wish coastal Texas all the best.

This one would call for "the" sign to be put up.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

They will not see this till they get power back, but our thoughts are with our members in that region.

In katy (30 miles west of Houston) we got power back on about 2:00 Sat. Lost part of my roof Friday night / Sat morning, and was up there putting up tarps about noon on sat. Water damage on my drywall and carpet, but the A/C is working so it's just a matter of filing an ins. claim. A lot of others don't have it as good as I've got it now, so keep them in your prayers.

CJS3, Glad you got your power back, and no one was injured.  Crews from NC, and all over the country are headed your way to help.

Thanks for the post.

During Hugo 9/89, our power came on the next day, my friends 15 miles away had no power for three weeks, I was doing their laundry, and sharing my shower, lots of dinners, etc,..

Take care, hope you get the house patched up quickly.

I was in hurricane donna , a class 5 back in 60 , came right over our house killed many and blew all the way to NH up the east coast . our house was a concrete block house , flat roof 1 story, like a bunker . no problems . I feel sorry for people these days , poor construction. But you always see a few homes still standing and you have to say hmmmm. Prayers are with them, cant imagine losing it all.
