Back surgery
« on: January 31, 2020, 07:12:49 pm »
Hey Y'all, I just got home from having a Spinal cord stimulator installed to help alleviate my back pain. I injured it back in 1996 and it has got progressively worse up until 2011, when my Dr. took me out of work and told me no more. I have tried a plethora of treatments that some helped and some were a waste of time.I was told late last year about the stimulator and how it works. I had to do a 6 day trial to see if it would work and if I was a viable candidate for it. Had to get a psychological exam and they ran a bunch of tests and I got the go ahead from workers comp (a den of sadistic demons from hell) The trial dropped my pain from a 9 on a 1 to 10 scale down to a 4. So after more dealing with the WC board they agreed to have a permanent install done. I'll have 2 weeks of doing nothing more strenuous than picking up a quart of milk, the another 2 to 4 weeks of recovery/healing. Right now I have a lot of pain in the incision area, but that will fade as time goes on. After I get the clearance from the DR I'll start a mild exercise program and try to lose some of the weight I gained from being a couch potato due to the pain. Wish me luck.If any of Y'all have been dealing with long term back pain I would highly recomend you ask your pain manegmant DR about this, It works.

Good Luck, Majer.

Sounds like this should be some relief and it sounds like you will stay with the program. Likely it is "conservative" to eliminate as much risk as possible from the procedure and recovery...and that is a good plan.

Take care and keep us up to date.

I hope your recovery went well. Any good news for us?

Thanks Jumbo Frank for the reminder. Yes, I'm pretty much pain free in my back since the stimulator was installed. I do find that if I over do anything I get some more pain, but that can be dealt with by increasing the pulse % on the remote. Of course now I feel pain in other areas(shoulder joints), That the back pain masked. But that's something I have to talk with my M.D. about the next appointment I have.
