I certainly don't disagree, and I hope womens numbers for income go higher and higher. I've worked with and for women, and for the last 13 years, a woman is co-owner in the business I work for. No problem there. Except she is she who must be obeyed.
To Segue that into the shooting sports, no other sport that I know of, is so equal to women. There may be different classes for women, but they can and do win the whole enchilada against men. We ( men ) may or may not have on a given day, more strength or athletic ability. Shooting takes a different kind of athleticism, hand and eye coordination combined with a timed reflex in a given moment.
In as brief a story as I can make it. I got suckered into the shooting sports by a few people, 1st is a Dallas, TX policeman that I met through a friend, He and his brother-inlaw who I did know went out to the woods to go shooting, on arrival he had more cool stuff than you can shake a stick at, HK 91's, 93's, .22rf conversion kits and of course 1911's, he was not stingey and we shot it all, and I had a ball, told my newlywed wife, I got's to have me some of these.
Fast forward to a few weeks later, and I'm at my friends house with the Policeman's girlfriend having drinks and a good time, We started talking about guns and she knew her stuff, much better than me, I was describing my small ( then ) battery of firearms, of which my prize possesion was a Thompson Center Contender in 30-30, with a 10" barrel. She was asking how it shot, and I said great. She asked me " does it shoot minute of angle? " I did not know what that meant, and just said, it shoots great, after a few more drinks she decided to challenge me, to a shoot off, she even said I could shoot off the bench and she would shoot offhand. I thought at the moment that would be cool. Well her boyfriend,, my new found friend showed up a little later, and he invited me to an IPSC match the next day. Sadly the hangover was too much to bear.
The lady was Marguerite Everheart, the year was 1980, she was the Womens national silhouette champion that year, you know 500 meters offhand, the next year she was the United States champion, she beat all the boys, she could hold a minute of angle offhand. If I had made it, she would have handed me my ass in my hat.
Many lessons learned without firing a shot, Women can shoot and they can compete anywhere in industry.
I think shooters tend to be conservative in philosophy, and accept Women and girls into the fold more readily, that means for the most part, republicans, but at least down south, there are a fair number of conservative dem's. We as shooters definitely accept youth very readily. I'm not surprised at the article, but wish the numbers were higher. They will be after this election.
