Friend of mine popped the hood, pulled off the air cleaner,  and threw sand on the fire.
He spent about 2X as much on carburetor work as he did on burned wires.    ;D

Frank. It works on Class D as well for when your aluminum block catches.

I didn't know that, but I wouldn't even try to put it out if the block started burning. If I get out unscathed, cool. 8) If I can keep the interior or a short under the hood from going up in flames, even better. Anything else is beyond my capabilities. I probably know a little more than the average person about putting out fires. And I know I don't have enough fire extinguishers to put out an engine fire in my truck or any fire in someone else's vehicle once it gets going good. It's one of those situations where seconds count and someone can't show up a couple minutes later with a fire extinguisher to save the day. Like when when you need a gun right now, not in a few minutes.

That's always been my beef with these dry chemical fire extinguishers. They make more of a mess than the fire. Halon is so much better.

Halon is awesome. As long as you aren't stuck in an an enclosed space with it, like a tank, or a server room.
