Yes.  What would you like to know?

Funny you should ask as I am hosting one this very weekend in Boulder, Montana.

And I just got back from one in Douglas WY. Drove 12 hours each way to do that, and damn well worth every mile / gallon of gas.

check out http://www.downrange.tv/forum/index.php?topic=3282.0

Had a ball, and re-learned how to shoot well.

What do you need to know?

Their objectives are on the up and up. Basic rifle marksmanship wrapped in a healthy dose of patriotism based on the founding fathers in the pre-, during and post Revolutionary war. That is why it is sponsored by the Revolutionary War Veterans Association. I saw nothing to the contrary all weekend, spent a lot of time with the instructors, even ate dinner at the next table Saturday night (small town, not too many restaurants). They were debriefing the day's instructions. These guys are great hearted and very serious about this program.

Safety rules are drummed into us, as well as the 6-step shooters mantra.

Their goal is 100,000 people through the program by 2010, they're around 10,000 right now.

BTW, the training class qualifies you to buy from the CMP, something like a mint M1 Garand.

I attended with my 10 year old grandson a couple of weeks ago and we both thoroughly enjoyed it.  Very safe and it was like we both had a full time personal instructor.

I guess it depends on what you consider politics.  It really is not part of the program, but some instructors will get off on that tangent (outside of the regular course) if you bring it up.  Basically, just as Pathfinder stated, some revolutionary war history (and interesting to boot), and then a lot of time spent learning positions, how to use a sling, and how to really use that rifle.  Completely different from shooting off of a bench.  The program follows the Army Qualification Test, and is similar to high power competition.

Also, due to ammuntion costs, a lot of people use .22's to shoot it.  I have built 2 10/22's with Tech Sights so the sights are just like what I have on my AR's, or M1A/Garand.  But you can truly bring what you have.  I have seen deer rifles, Mauser 98's, Mosins, SKS's, AK's, AR-15's, Robinson's, lever actions... and on and on.

Come on out and see for yourself.

BTW, Fred of Fred's M-14 Stocks was there in Douglas, MY. Fred is the founder of this program and one hell of a cranky old curmudgeon patriot. There were three other Appleseeds that weekend, and he spent the whole time with us. That was a special event.

Boston of Molon Labe and Boston's Gun Bible was also there as I believe he lives in that neck of the woods.

Can't say they will be at all, but they may show up. Way cool.
