One of the things I like about it is the small grip circumference.  I can get a death grip on it.

A few years back I did a study on single-stack (or near ss) 9mm.   I was looking at the different grip circumferences.
Imagine the LGS's clerk's surprise when I asked to see every ss 9mm in stock and I whipped out my milner's tape.

Typical 9mm full size grip runs 5.5".   I measure under the trigger guard where the third finger would go.  (I need to update my measurements for all the new models.)  .380's run smaller of course, but I was looking for a 9mm with a small grip.  Not a short one, small in circumference.

Shield was 5"
SA XDG M2 was 5.125"
and for reference S&W M60 revolver with stock grips runs 4.5"

The P365 is 4.875.    No wasted space in that grip.  Not going to make a very good hammer.

To hell with hammers.
They make a gun for that.   ;D

OH NO!

Just broke my P365.   Went to the range to put 100 more rounds through it and half-way through the trigger stopped working.  It feels like it is pulling the striker back but there's no "release".    Taken it apart and have examined.  Nothing obvious.    I was at my LGS and range where I had bought the pistol so I took it to the store gunsmith and he was unsure what was wrong.   He hadn't encountered it before.  All warranty work is done by Sig.

So I'm home and on hold with Sig Customer Service.

UPDATE:   Took about 15 minutes.  My call was answered by CSR Thomas Sargent and he got the FedEx label out to me post haste.  Will send it off tomorrow.  Should be back in my hands by Monday at the latest.

TO DO:

  • Buy P365   < ---- traded in Shield
  • Buy extra mags
  • Register for slot/squad  <----- sq 32 Friday
  • Break gun return to SIG  <---- bad sear, returned 4/23
  • Procure ammo  <---- USPSA holding 1,000rds of AE Syntek for me!!!
  • Practice   <-- 230rd before break, 292 after break
  • Make travel plans
  • Go
  • Shoot
  • Collect awards  ;)

SIG says the sear was out of tolerance and replaced it.    Practice over the next couple of weeks will tell the tale.

Also, everyone signed up for the USPSA Lo-Cap Nationals got a chance to buy 1,000 rounds of Federal Syntech Action Pistol Ammo.  Yes, it's $0.54/rd but that beats anything else out there in price and availability.  This will see me through both USPSA Nats, USPSA Ga State and the SIG EDC.

Talked to the organizer of the event a couple weeks ago about volunteering with setup or whatever they need. He said he was going to send a form for me to fill out, but I’m still waiting for it.

Hmmm...the sear was out-of-spec.  That's bad.  I wonder if that is a "common" problem...like they have a bad run?

Maybe you can ask around at the shoot.

Let us know how the fix performs Alf.  I'm interested to know if there is some improvement (obviously it's probably not broken now!) now over to how it was performing.

Not to disparage any manufacturer, but one theory being floated around:

Gun and ammo manufacturers are possibly trying too hard to make up for the surge in demand for their products over the last year.  Anytime you try to step up a manufacturing process there is a risk that quality, quality control, could suffer.

That shared, I'm not in a position to judge whether Sig, Ruger, XD, Glock or S&W (the most popular micro 9 makers) are having more or less problems than 18 months ago.  Currently I'm on Sigtalk daily just because of my problem.  Those who participate in other forums might comment on how things seem with other manufacturers.  Haven't noticed any particular uptick in complaints on general forums (like THR).

Sig made good and so far it's holding.  Obviously a meetup where everyone is shooting the same 2 models of gun there will be a lot of stories swapped.  I'll share.

ON A SIDE NOTE:   I'm amazed at how many failures I see at competitions.    I might start keeping count.  .22lr and PCCs seem to be the guns with the most problems, but I see shooters who due to ammo or gun have difficulties far beyond my tolerance.   I think in the past year I've had 2 misfires while shooting over 50 competitions.   I see people with 3, 4, 5 or more failures in one stage.  It tells me that a) they're not testing and practicing very much.  b)  They possibly need to select better equipment and ammo.

I don't think I'm overly prideful, but I don't want to stand in front of my squad and have an equipment failure.   I had it happen, years ago, but not again.   Going to the line confident your gear works is part of the game.  Same goes for EDC.  Leaving the house knowing that you can DEPEND on your gear to save your life is crucial, in my opinion.

That's what back up guns are for .
You should never count on any thing.
You've got a 5th tire for your car don't you ?
And your schedule is the only thing that depends on that.
 ;D
If I were running the competition one random snapcap would be required for every stage.

  • Buy extra mags

  • Break gun return to SIG  <---- bad sear, returned 4/23
  • Procure ammo  <----  500rds of AE Syntech let over from LoCap
  • Practice   <-- 609 Total
  • Make travel plans   <---going solo, airline booked, hotel booked
  • Go
  • Shoot
  • Collect awards  ;)

Gun still working good after I got it back.  Will start using it in club IDPA matches each week.   Sig says they'll have 200rds set aside for purchase for each competitor but I'm not sure I want Sig ammo.   I really love the Syntech for competition.   Of course using Sig ammo at the match saves on shipping and shows I'm a real Sig Fan Boy.

After the 3 day trip to Talladega, an hour and 45min over, 2:15 back, Miss Kitty has decided not to suffer 4 long days of driving for a 1 day match.    We've got nothing in particular we want to do around that area.  We've toured Maine.  We might want to do the Boston-Patriot tour stuff, but that would be a separate gun-less trip.

I'm on my own for 4 days.  My  favorite hotel chain is booked, so I'm going with a Sig Corporate rate one.   The real problem is rental cars.  $200/day right now!!!   I checked Lyft and the cost of Portland airport to Sig Academy is $90+ !!!!    I'm hoping that both costs will come down in the next 8 weeks.

Alf,There is absolutely NOTHING to see or do in New Hampshire. I went there a couple years ago to meet some friends that came up from below the Mason/Dixon line for a CAS shoot and took my wife with me figuring that we could go see some sights while there. There were no tourists stops with any information, we even drove up to the capital figuring there might be some historic type place again,Nothing.I asked one of the people at the match what they did for entertainment and he said"Drink a lot". So I doubt Mrs Alf would have a good time there.
