Only neighbor  that does not like me is the one that complained about the elk.

I just need to find the time to build a frame on wheels, as the bag is about 40# and they do better when they can swing.  I figured I would buy a furniture  dolly from horrible  frieght and some 2x3 with some hooks. The furniture  dollys are cheaper than buying the 4 wheels.

Hathcock reportedly practiced by taking one shot a day.  Then went back to his quarters and thoroughly cleaned his gun.

Probably wiped down his rifle too.

I was playing today on the job site
Had stakes marked off at 87 yards.   I have a slider sight and said what the hell, worst case I plant an arrow in the dirt.   I was able to put 6 with in a 12" circle.

I've often wondered what would have been the outcome at the Alamo if the Texican defenders had been shooting rapid loading long bows with steel tipped arrows instead of slow to reload rifles....US version of the Battle of Agencourt

as one of the F4 pilots was said to have commented about the "golden bb" flak over NVN... "I'm not worried with the one with my name on it, I'm worried about the one that says "to whom it may concern"

Interesting question.
By the early 1800's fire arms were longer ranged and more reliable, but the bow was still much faster to reload.
That wouldn't change until cartridges made repeating arms practical.

Here's an interesting video I ran across on the subject .

Using arrows like a mortar is me the most devastating uses.   The bowman can be behind cover while raining curtains of death from above.  I'm surprised that organized armies didn't use both for a time period.   The bow for long distance, >100yds, and the firearm for charges.

Of course even into WW I some military leaders thought the rifle was just a fancy pike.

Have to keep in mind the context.
Before 1860ish it was just a fancy pike.
You got off one shot then "got stuck in".
There was a learning curve involved while they figured out what this new gear could do.

Then the Great war came along and they all died from machine guns.   ;D
