Which gun would you use?
« on: September 25, 2008, 04:16:29 PM »
I'm shooting my first major match this weekend (TN Sectional), and I'm in a bit of a quandry. I'm shooting Single Stack, and I have two very nice guns to choose from.

Gun 1 is a 2 yr old Ed Brown Kobra. Overall the gun is smooth as silk, and has the nicest trigger of any of my guns. I've been shooting it in club matches this summer, and it has perfomed without a hitch.

Gun 2 is a 10+ yr old Springfield that has been the best sights of any of my 1911s, and a "maxi-well" for faster reloads. Although the gun isn't as tight and smooth as my Ed Brown, its been a solid performer for years, and is faster and more accurate than I am.

So - should I choose the Brown for the great trigger, or the Springfield for its great sights and magwell?

Not qualified to say, BB, but good luck in the match. Sounds like you know what you're doin'. Take some video and post it here on the forum.

Man, I should have such problems.
Since you've been shooting the Kobra in competition already, stick with it. Don't change until you've had an opportunity to do some practice with the other weapon.

Sounds like either would do fine, as both are nice pistols.
If you look at matches as an extension of defensive training, then go with the one you would bet your life on.
If matches are a recreational thing (they can be both recreational and training oriented), then close your eyes and grab one.. :D
Or, take them both.

I'd go with the Kobra. I mean, you've been shooting it all summer with no problem. Take the Springfield as a backup. on the one in 3 billion chance the Kobra breaks down.

For me it would be a no brainer...Good sights (old eyes)!  Since you have been using the Cobra stick with it.

Have Fun!!!!!

Tough call, wait a few hours and go back and pick one up, than the other. You'll know which one to take. Sometimes, even with more than one "great" pistol, it picks you, and won't let you down.

Good Shooting and all the best. Post some pics, and let us know which one you went with. Either one sounds like a worthy choice.

Well that is a very tough question. But for me I would choose the Springfield. Resons for that are the sights. If they are good and you are as good with them, then that would be it. Also the 10 yr+ pistol is going to be more forgiving to the elements, dust, and most likely not be affected by the high round count and not being properly cleaned. Tho I doubt the Brown has any problem with the like, but still it is one more thing that make you more at ease.

Or you could just say "screw it" to the rules and just shoot double fisted, and list your excuse as you were not able to choose which gun you wanted to shoot. Thats what I'd do anyway.  ;D
