I made it official last week….moved to Missouri
« on: January 16, 2024, 01:26:23 PM »
I moved to Missouri in December.  From Illinois, because the gun laws suck so bad.

Last week, I really made it official by getting a Missouri driver’s license.

Here in a few weeks I will be getting Missouri plates on my car.

Should I happen to get pulled over in Illinois with a gun in my trunk (stowed properly, of course), I am hoping I will be covered under the Firearm Owner’s Protection Act (FOPA), and the Safe Passage Act:

Quote
One of the law's provisions (codified in section 926A of Title 18, U.S. Code) federally codifies regulations around the transportation of firearms directly from one state to another, and pre-empts existing state regulations. Barring short stops for food and gasoline, persons not otherwise prohibited from possessing firearms may transport them from state to state, provided the firearms are legal in both the state of departure and state of arrival. For transportation, the firearms and ammunition must not be readily accessible; the firearms must be unloaded and, in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver's compartment, the firearms must be located in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console.[12][13]….

I wanted to post a like but it's bad being pushed out.  However, I am glad you had a plan to get out of that hellhole.

What area of Missouri?

Pevely, Missouri.

From about 2006 to 2012, I was a member of the Arnold Rifle and Pistol Club, which is just up the road from Pevely.  I used to shoot 3 or 4 pistol matches there a month.

So that is my plan , to shoot there until I can buy enough land to set up my own range.

I think I had a thread here in this forum last year about how the two ranges I used to shoot at in Illinois….

Well….whatever .gov entity placed Automated License Plate Reader cameras just outside the ranges.

So basically scratch going to those two ranges off the list, for forever.

To be commended on the move.  It’s not easy to pick up and move.

Not counting wherever the army sent me, I've only moved twice in my life, and never left the city. The first move was a mile and the second one was 7 miles. To take everything in one trip, rather than as many short trips as I wanted, would take renting a moving van and paying for whatever amount of fuel it burned. That sounds expensive. Especially compared to the 2 mile round trips when I moved out of my mom's house. My younger brother only moved 5 blocks away from our mom's house the last time he moved.

Best wishes on getting settled in and moving forward with your plans.

Good luck with that.  A lawless government is unconstrained and willing to persecute individuals to instill fear so long as the people allow it.

Tyler, when I moved from North Dakota to Kentucky in 2013, I took the ferry boat across from Wisconsin to Michigan so I could avoid that God-forsaken state completely! I didn't trust them then, and I sure as hell don't trust them now under that little fat prick who was born with a platinum spoon in his mouth. Not to mention the state's registration law took effect cuz the courts were too cowardly to deal with it. Confiscation will follow shortly.

Good move on your part, Tyler.

The SS Badger has been making that 100km (62 mile) trip, back and forth since 1953. I never made the trip but I'd like to some day.

Good luck with that.  A lawless government is unconstrained and willing to persecute individuals to instill fear so long as the people allow it.

So far….for now, in Illinois, the compliance to register anything has been really low.

It is kind of a huge middle finger to Prickster.

I would hate to be the test case for the FOPA / SPA .

But if I ever get stopped, chances are it is going to be an over/under shotgun to shoot trap or skeet with.

I would think a jury would be more sympathetic to some “Fudd-like” blued and wood gun versus one of those “evil death machine AR-15’s”.

As a side note…

Over in Illinois..

The one club I shot trap and skeet at, actually had a microphone/remote for the skeet field.  And it was smart enough to give you the high house bird first, then the low house bird, and then on a few stations, the double.

It was pretty slick.  I think the first time I used it all by myself, I went through 25 shells on just  the first 3 stations.  I had to figure out the timing and leads on my own.

Over here on the Missouri side, I have not asked around yet to see where the trap and skeet clubs are at.
