The $1500 Question

Currently, I have a Remington 700, a Kimber Aegis II, an early 1930s Baretta .22 pistol, .44 cal black powder cap and ball revolver, Tom Brown tracker and scout knives, gillie suite in progress, and fold up shovel.  I have $1500 dollars burning a whole in my pocket, and I want to make the right choice of where to spend it.  Is there anything that my collection is lacking...

My Remington 700 does not yet have a set of rings and scope.  I am drawn to the Leupold Mark 4 10x40mm LR/T M3 Rifle scope. 

I really wanted a Thompson, but I can not get the full-auto. 

I have always been attached to a single action army revolver in .45LC.

I would love to have a gunsmith perform upgrades to my Kimber 1911.  Unfortunately, I have had a hard time finding a gunsmith that works with 9mm.  Any recommendations would be great in this department too.


Can I please have some help making the right decision in where to spend my $1500?

I really can't help you spend your money, as I know very little about you, but if it was me  I would get the scope... having a toy, I mean tool( yes guns are tools) that I can not use, becuase I need something else to go with it. drves me up the wall.

Scope and rings first...Leupold Mark 4s are way good but pricey. Depends on what you're shooting at and how far out you're looking to go.

CDNN (http://www.cdnninvestments.com/) was blowing out Taurus Gaucho single actions a couple of weeks ago at $279 a pop, .357 or .45 Colt. Not the world's greatest SA, but $279 isn't the world's biggest bill, either. I have one and it always shot just fine for moi...

I'd get the scope, but a straight 10 is not very flexible, unless your just going to target shoot. I have the 3.5x10 LRT M3, illuminated reticle and love it. Remember guns come and go, but a good piece of glass, is kept and transferred as your collection changes. ;) Shop around too, I got mine for 700.00 used but in excellent condition.

What caliber is the Remy 700?  If it is (or might become) a hunting or even a varmint gun ya might want to look into a good low light scope like Trijicon.  NOT battery power just their low light stuff. 

For the cash I would say make sure you get an adjustable object lens and some thing starting in the 3 power range for the low part of the variable so you can still use it for closer shots.

Does the rifle have sights now?  If so maybe use see through rings as well for those close shots.

Just some ideas.
