When is a DustBuster not a DustBuster?

When is a DustBuster not a DustBuster? Why, when it's something else, of course. Okay, that probably sounded stupid, so I'll explain. Last year I bought a Ryobi ONE+ 18V Wet/Dry Hand Vacuum. The bottom left attachment in the 4th pic lets you put a wide nozzle on for vacuuming floors and other flat things. I used it today to vacuum up some coffee grounds in the cupboard. When I tossed a coffee filter full of grounds in the gallon compostables jug, one time it hit the edge and not everything went in. I let it set for quite awhile until it was good and dry. As I worked I started thinking that the round end of the adaptor was about the same diameter as the 2 extension tubes from the Sears upright vacuum I bought 35 years ago. They fit on my 5-gallon Shop-Vac and are a fairly common size. The black attachment is from the Shop-Vac, so I have parts of 3 different vacuum cleaners stuck together. The upper left attachment is always in the vacuum until I need to use a different one. It's rubbery instead of hard plastic and good for sucking up liquids, and stuff on irregular surfaces. The 2 right side attachments fit on the upper left one.

I put the tubes on and they were a loose fit. So I put a piece of Gorilla Tape about 1/2" wide on the adaptor. It's like a band-aid running lengthwise, and now it's a snug fit. My vacuum went from being a little DustBuster type of thing to a lightweight cordless vacuum cleaner I can use on the floor while standing up straight instead of crawling around on my hands and knees. This will come in handy for the little kitchen messes I normally grab a broom and dustpan for. When I use the broom I always have to bend way over to use the dustpan because it doesn't have a long vertical handle like some industrial versions do. I would stick a piece of broom handle to it, but it clips onto the broom and they hang on the wall in a <10" space next to the fridge. My mop is hanging in that little nook too. I couldn't put the fridge against the wall because there's a heat duct near the floor. I had to take that into consideration before I ordered and installed my cupboards. And I made good use of the wall space above the heat duct by storing the 3 cleanup tools there.
