NY State Database costs $3.5million per "hit".
« on: September 29, 2008, 09:06:59 PM »
Filed by the AP and seen in the Tampa Bay Online.

NY States 7 year old database of shell casings has had.......(wait for it).......2, that's TWO  (1, 2) positive hits since it started.  At the cost of $1million a year it works out to $3.5million for each of those hits.

Buy wait,  there's more!     NO PROSECUTIONS.......No, no.  I didn't say zero guilty verdicts, I said zero (0) prosecutions.  Nada, none.

You can read about it at:
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/B/BALLISTICS_DATABASE?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=US

And for those who want an original source go the the NY State Police annual report for 2007.  And yes, they might have had an additional hit in 2008, but the SP spokesman didn't seem aware of any in the above article.

But wait, you all know what's needed, right?   MORE legislation and more funding.  Yep that's the ticket.  NOT

Yeesh. Yet another fiasco and waste of good money. And why is it they won't dump the system?  I think even Maryland has seen the light.

Along similar lines, can anyone see the glaring problems with microstamped casings being required by law if (and that's a huge 'if') they could even get it right?

A) Criminals would illegally own guns w/o the system or disable it
B) All your current guns eventually would become contraband
C) You need to account for all your used casings lest some unsavory characters use them as (or sell them for) red herrings at crime scenes.  I had license plates I turned in to DMV sold by an employee. Fortunately, it was only out of state parking violatons I was contacted about.
D) Just because Fatman is paranoid about threats to RTKBA, doesn't mean every anti isn't out to get him, and his leetle guns, too
E) All of the above
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.
