Skallywag Tactical - Outlet Sale
« on: August 01, 2025, 02:13:39 PM »
I took a look at Skallywag Tactical last night and saw that they had an outlet page of sale items. Of course, I couldn't help myself and just had to place an order.

I ordered a Mantis in Green, because that seemed like the appropriate color for a mantis.

And a Scorpion in Orange, because scorpions are kind of orange, but Tan would also have been a good color.

But I got a Fireside in Tan after I decided the Blue was too light for my liking. Maybe I should have ordered an Orange Fireside and Tan Scorpion instead. Those sound good too. I wanted all 3 knives to be different colors, but not Purple (too gay ;) )or Black (too common).

I also got a Talon Folding Karambit. All 4 knives are part of the Buccaneer series.

And I got a Grandpa knife with 2 3" long blades for just $11.99. Any cheaper and they would be giving them away.

I also ordered a stainless steel Pirate Pen in Gun Metal finish, a Coyote Tan & Black Shemagh, and a 5 inch x 5 inch Skallywag Logo Decal.

They sent me a 2" X 3" Velcro patch instead of a 5" X 5" decal. I'm still waiting while they look into it. I bought the Pirate Pen for my friend's birthday but it got here a couple of days too late. I gave him an old tactical pen of mine to put in the Versacarry Multitool (OWB) Holster I gave him, and I'll give him the new pen at his grandson's first birthday party in a week or two. I also gave him a small flashlight, and a multi-tool of mine that fit the holster because I didn't think his Leatherman would fit. The sheath for the Fireside and Scorpion are the same, and the handles on the Fireside, Scorpion, and Mantis are all interchangeable. So I switched the handles of the Fireside and Scorpion, so the Fireside has handles more like the color of fire than dead wood. If the tan handles looked light tan like the pictures online, instead of grayish FDE, The handle I put on the Scorpion would look more like the desert, where you're most likely to find scorpions. They all used the same T8 screws to hold them on, and I used blue Loctite on all 3 knives after I switched handles on 2 of them.

The color looks NOTHING like the picture I took. I don't know how to make it look right either, but here they are. The handles on the Mantis are green, but not bright leaf green, or whatever that is. It's more like the color of grass after it's been covered with a tarp for a few days and some of it's chlorophyll has faded away, then it's uncovered and dried out. The tan looks like light grayish brown, and the "bright orange" is a dull, dirty, slightly reddish orange. But I'm colorblind, so don't take my word for it. I can still see that they don't look anything like the picture, or the pics online, anyway. The Fireside (I think) had a small burr on the blade that disappeared after a few seconds of work with a butcher's steel.

The folding karambit is a big, thick chunk of a knife, over 3/4" thick, not counting the pocket clip, and the handle should be more rounded off instead of rectangular. I have it in my pocket right know and will take my chances carrying it in the township tomorrow, even though the blade is slightly more than the 3" length advertised. Both blades on the Grandpa pocket knife were really stiff but I worked them back and forth a while and they got a little better. They're all cheap Chinese knives, and may be worth what I paid for them.

Monday I got an OD Green Micarta Mettle 2 Folding Pocket Tool and an OD Green Aluminum Rubato 2 Folding Tool from Olight, along with a random i3E EOS Keychain Flashlight for $4.99. It was an 18th Anniversary Edition, which is cool. I also would have been happy with a Blue Porcelain one, or even an Auspicious Clouds. But I'm glad I didn't get the Dream Blue one with gold stripes. I already have one of those, and a similar Olight Blue that's shiny with silver stripes.

The Mettle 2 with Micarta handles weighs 2.54 ounces, with an aluminum handle one weighing .28 ounce more, and the Rubato 2 weighs 3.87 ounces. The 1 1/3 ounce difference between the 2 knives was enough to tell which one was which by the weight of the boxes before I opened them. Each one came with a challenge coin in the case, and a microfiber cleaning cloth like a lens cleaning cloth. I think this s my 1st Mettle 2 and 3rd Rubato 2 but I can't keep track anymore. They were both on sale cheap enough that I couldn't resist. The Mettle 2 flips open very easily, and I like the rail lock on the Rubato 2. The easiest way to close it is to unlock it and let the blade fall down into the handle. I like both blade style too. One is a good slicer/light chopper, and the other one is nice and stabby. :)

Here are the different i3E EOS flashlights I was talking about.
