Biathlon
« on: February 07, 2026, 09:06:47 AM »
It is once again Winter Olympics time, which means time for some biathlon. Sadly, this sport receives little coverage. Unlike many games it does not get the replays or even the live coverage in full.

This is a game I wish I had been able to try when I was younger. I tried cross-country skiing a couple times, but the investment vs. use made me back away.  However, I did find a way to make exercise more fun and got a way to measure progress.

For many years we had a NordicTrack. Great exercise machine, if you use it. One day I realized that I could combine it with rifle shooting. In our lower level I used the hallway and family room to layout a 10-meter range. I put the ski machine in one bedroom at the shooting line end. I could "ski a lap," hop off and shoot a string of five or ten shots. Hop back on and repeat. I played this game with both a cheap pump pellet rifle and a break barrel handgun.

As we prepared to move, the NordicTrack went away, and I instantly missed the game.

Of course anything I'm interested in isn't covered well, winter or summer. I gave up on the Olympics a LONG time ago. If I knew when curling was up I'd watch it for a few minutes, just for a good laugh. If that doesn't leave you wondering "What the ____?", I don't know what sport will. ;D

I'd take that!

I get up at 0300 and leave for work at 0420.

I just go home and I have the choice between Switzerland vs US Women's hockey and Figure Skating Rhythm Dance.

I'll watch curling. The previous two games I knew members from one of the US teams. They are from Bemidji, MN, and I met them at my mom's church.

I like the curling matches, I just don't watch the Olympics much any more. Maybe I'll see if it's available on demand on Peacock since the wife pays for it.

EDIT: It's available on Peacock streaming and youtube.... If nothing else is on, I might watch a few matches.
