I believe it was a show on tv ,he was riding a red v twin with a nitrous boost at 150 he hit the nitrous and the bike went squirrelly and dumped him, it was on Sunday, if thats him about 45-50 thin with curly red hair?
Description sounds like him except hair - I hardly see him without a hat, but don't think it's red. Full name is Leo Hess and he operates Blast Engineering in Sioux Falls.
Found this forum this morning that talks about the accident. Note last line of second post ...

..Word is that Leo Hess past winner of the Temple Party Drags crashed his Tom Rudd tuned Kyuriakin sponsored streamliner yesterday while attempting a new Motorcycle Land Speed Record on the Bonneville Salt Flats.
...From what I can gleen from the internet, the friend of lots of Texas Harley Racers and a sponsor on the back of this years Memorial Temple T-Shirt was conscious when pulled from the wreckage but apparently had some pretty badly broken bones in his legs. One of the two places I found with information stated that he was in pretty bad shape but neither site expressed that he was in danger of death.
....His business address for cards and get better wishes is -
Full Blast Engineering,3202 S. Walts, Sioux Falls SD, 57105

Poo - I finally got through to Leo Hess' shop in Sioux Falls South Dakota and the folks there gave me a rundown on Leo's condition. Pretty bad - but not life threatening... He broke both ankles, got a rod in one femur, a shin shield in the other leg and they're still gonna operate on his knees. He's supposedly in good spirits (with all the stuff they've probably got him pumped up on - I imagine he probably is)
...He's in a hospital in Salt Lake City Utah and the address and more updates are on his shop's web site now fullblastengineering.com
..The guy I talked to said that he was most upset about breaking his trigger finger - so I guess he really is gonna be alright.. A card or two from other racers would probably help too..
