New protections for CCW and 'emergency power' limitations in PA

Emergency Powers Bill Approved by House and Senate!

Today, House Bill 1845, an omnibus legislative package passed the State House and State Senate and is on the way to Governor Ed Rendell (D).  This legislation contained a number of pro-gun provisions for Pennsylvania gun owners.  Among the provisions was an “Emergency Powers” provision prohibiting any government agency from arbitrarily confiscating firearms during a state of emergency, such as occurred in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Other important provisions include:

·         Establishing lawful carry of a concealed firearm in state parks

·         Funding for the acclaimed “Don’t Lie For The Other Guy” program administered by the National Shooting Sports Foundation

·         Emergency permitting system for concealed carry licenses for individuals who are under immediate threat

Passed unanimously.  NRA urges me to call the Guvinator and ask he sign it into law. Why??? They think he wants to fight with the entire Legislative branch?  ;D

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

You are correct!  Fast Eddy is capable of anything if he can get something out of it.

He'll get something, alright. Mooned by a few hundred lawmakers and defeated in the next election. Those provisions are in with a slew of laws adding more teeth to killing/assaulting a policeman, provisions to make tougher straw buyer penalties, etc.

That's strange!  I was told by the Sheriff when I applied for my OOS CCW that it was legal to carry in State Parks.  My wife and I go bicycle riding at Presque Isle quite often.  Didn't carry until got a copy of the park r&r.

A more likely scenario is that the Sheriff who spoke to ellis had no idea what he was talking about.

Could be... could also be open carry was proibited, and concealed wasn't intended to be - the new legislation might be clarifying it in writing.  My sheriff basically told me primary and secondary schools were verboten, as were Fed thingies. Strongly advised I not carry in bars, but apparently no law against it.  Never mentioned parks.

That reminds me, what happened to the effort to allow concealed on US Park Service property?
