« on: October 15, 2008, 09:05:53 PM »
Anybody out here own one of the Automag II .22 magnums?  I'm wondering how reliable they are.

Thanks,
Ken

My brother bought one new and it worked some of the time. That wasn't good enough so he bought a Ruger Mark II. Not a magnum but it works. Unless the new High Standard one is better than the AMT, I would rather get an Excel Arms than an AutoMag .22. http://www.excelarms.com/acceleratorpistol.html It comes in either .17 HMR or .22 WMR and you can buy a conversion barrel to shoot the other caliber. I contacted them before and they said they could make a customized one that's a bit lighter. They make 1911 conversion kits too!!!

I love how they are not for sale in CA, but come with  a CA approved cable lock...

its a damn shame seeing how they are made here, but can't be sold here.  Damn, approved list BS.

hmmm they do have a distrubuter about 8 miles from my house... I may have to check out that 1911 conversion.

What's the "evil" factor that keeps them from being sold in Kalifornia?

its hard to say with the CA DOJ, but best guess is not approved chamber indacation.

You have to understand these are the same guys that wanted to ban the 500 smith and wession when it 1st came out, saying gang bangers would use it...  yeah lets see, a gun that was well north of a grand( at that time), ammo was atleast a cnote a box, no way to conceal it, going to be very rare and easy to trace back... yeah they were going to jump all over that...  ::)

I always love the gang banger excuse to ban a gun.  I see a lot of this done with pictures of bangers committing violent acts.  They want to ban these big guns, and then post a picture of a SE Asian gang banger (no racism intended) that is 5'6" and 145# dripping wet.  They claim they are going to run around with a Barrett or S&W 500  :o  You want to scare someone, use my picture ... At 6'1" and 295#, I could hide a Barrett under my jacket and carry a 500 on my hip.  Most of these guys are smaller than the guns.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

Actually in CA( and most places that have refinerys)    you could do alot of damage with a 50 BMG and the right ammo... which of corse is also banned, but still very easy to get.   Atleast the baning of the 50 BMG had some logic too it.( lets just say when I was in the USCG, keeping people away from the refinerys in the bay area was a VERY big part of my job. )  Trying to ban the 500 S&W was strickly emotion.   "its 1/2"  its too deadly."
