Rossi/Puma
« on: October 20, 2008, 10:51:25 PM »
Was roaming around one of them big box stores today (actually I needed something for a task at work, figured they would have it, and can't go in and out without a stroll down the gun aisles - co worker outside waiting in the van with ... ah ... uhm ... client wondering why a five minute run takes 15).  You know the kind of place ... lots of stuff, and lots of guys in orange hunting vests, but very little knowledge of what they stock.

In the used gun section I found a lever action rifle with a tag identifying it as a Rossi Puma (LS or LA I think).  It was chambered in .357 mag/.38 spl.  Blued octagon barrel, brass receiver, and wood furniture stained black.  The only markings on the gun itself was the caliber stamped in the barrel.  I imagine the serial number is under the lever, but it had enough wire ties and locks to hold King Kong in his cage.

Anyone know anything about this?  I've done a search (not real in depth, cause I've only been home an hour) and can't find anything like it at Rossi.

Just curious.

Ihe black funiture sounds right for the Puma and they make a bluedoctogon barrel model but I don't remember a brass receiver.  Still it could be an older model.  Or it could be a Rossi imported under another name like Navy Arms instaed of Puma.  It's  could be marked Puma just because it is better known under that name.

This is one I found on Gunbroker.  I think the one at the store was a 24", but they look the same otherwise.

DesertMarine - thanks for the link.  That is informative.

M58,

They are great shooters.  I have a  blued .454 with 18 ported barrel (no longer made) and my son has the 20 stainless .44 magnum.  1 to 2 inch groups with open sights at 100 yards off a bench are very do-able.

My son has dropped a running 200 lb pig at 30 yards with his.  (MAYBE some day I'll get a shot a one!  :( )

Here's a pic of mine.

I have changed the sights to a peep and removed the safety.

You haven't gotten a pig yet?  Everyone tells me that they are as think as flies down there and just waitin to jump in front of your gun ;)

Of course, that's what they tell me about deer up here when I can go months without seeing one.

Yep, I've posted those before.

Pigs a plenty down here but the buggers seem to disappear on me when it's light enough to see the sights. Just before dawn I can see their shape but can't see the sights, then as the dawn approaches the SOBs fade into the brush!  >:(

Yep...I can't believe it but he's showing off that gun AGAIN.

Maybe we could all go together and get Haz some runway lights to hook up to his sights.
I got the blues as my companion.
