A 1911 match would be a fitting tribute.
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. Letter to Alexander Hamilton, Friday, May 02, 1783

Need to come up with something for the hand gunners.

How about bullseye broken down into rimfire, minor and major?

Oh ... I'm all for this!

Sounds like the perfect reason for me to go out and buy a 1911.
heck, any artists out there? build a 1911 to raffle off or give away as prize for the memorial shoot?

I really like the 1911 idea...evidently it was his favorite, so why don't we go that way?
Besides, I LOVE shooting my 1911.

.22 rifles:

Iron sights at 50 yards

Optics 100 yards

bench rest consists of sand bags and/or wood 'stool', no lead sled kinda stuff.
We could also have an off hand at 50 (my club won't allow offhand on the 100 line).
C'mon guys and gals give me a hand here.

You you know what the ballistics of a .22 are at 100 yards? You must have the match version of the 10/22, mine is just a pawn shop find.    ;D

I'm in, like the idea of calling it the Gunman1911 Memorial Match. Maybe put his name under the heading, like

OK y'all....

Start coming up with the rules.  I figure a 4 week time limit on the shoot should give everyone a chance at getting to the range.

Targets?

M58, you'll need to 'splain "rimfire minor and major" to some of us (like me ;D )

If we get on this we can kick it off on 1 Nov. this year and roll it back to October next year.
All tipoes and misspelings are copi-righted.  Pleeze do not reuse without ritten persimmons  :D

Rimfire = any rimfire handgun

Minor* = Below a power factor of 165,000 (bullet weight x speed)

Major* = Power factor of 165,000 and up

* USPSA ratings

In general, a .40 S&W should make Major

I would think that rather than reinvent the wheel we could use NRA competition rules.  They have something for everyone, so we could pick the competitions for each gun and let everyone shoot.  NRA does a lot of Postal Matches, and maybe we could just pick from those.

I believe what he is refering to is power factor (velcocity x bullet weight / 1000; 200 grain x 900fps/1000=180PF) with 125 to 164 Minor and 165+ Major similar to USPSA rules, anything 9mm and bigger rated by PF and the 22s as a seperate category.

Opitics or Iron, Revolver/Auto then broke down by Rimfire or Major/Minor is a great idea.
Use the NRA Bullseye targets which are pretty easy to find.
Edit: just not fast enough  m58 beat me to the post :)

I was thinking of a online, print it target so we can get them easy (and cheap).

M58, I was thinking simple and easy.  Set our own rules for regular guns.

OK I set up some .22 rifle rules that were (I think) simple and clear.

Lets get the others the same way.

Maybe with handguns lets go for pocket guns (snub and itty bitty autos) say anything with a barrel under 3 or 3.5 inches shot at 10 yards.

Other handguns (with a barrel limit of 8 or 9 inches) at 25 yards for iron sights and 50 for optics.

All ammo must be factory loads.

Set up bench and freehand rules.

Then lets go shoot!

No limit on targets submitted, $5.00 for initial entry (for charity in Gmans' name).
All tipoes and misspelings are copi-righted.  Pleeze do not reuse without ritten persimmons  :D
