Sig P220 Internal Extractor
« on: October 22, 2008, 12:11:56 PM »
I have read several posts both here and on other forums concerning failure-to-extract problems with the Sig P220 with an internal extractor.  I also have this problem.  After about 25 rounds or so, I get a failure to extract in about 1 out of every 5 shots.  This happens with my reloads (6.0 gr Unique/230 FMJ) and factory rounds.  Ordered a replacement extractor from Top Gun Supply (BTW, a great company to deal with) and installed it but have not had a chance to shoot since.  Anyone else have this problem and if so, what did you do about it?

bcj, I have the "Carry" model, traditional SA/DA,  internal extractor, with about 1000 rounds through without problems. WWB and Ranger LE ammo. Sorry you're having trouble.

Mac: mine is a regular P220 ST, also SA/DA.  It, too, ran fine for the first 1000 rounds.  In fact it ran fine for the first 5000 rounds.  Now, the FTEx problems are driving me crazy.  I mostly shoot reloads described above, but the same thing happens with Federal Hydrashok, WWB JHP, Speer Gold Dot, or MagTech FMJ.  The brass appears to get pulled about half way out of the chamber and the extractor evidently slips off the cartridge rim.  The slide continues to the rear and then tries to chamber the next round in the magazine but the next round jambs up against the partically extracted brass.

It sounds like it doesn't have enough tension on it.
