Glock 19, I'm in love!
« on: June 03, 2007, 05:31:25 AM »
I am a Police Sergeant in one of America's safest cities, not.  I am also the departments firearms instructor  (Rangemaster= The one that does the bulk of the work and shoulders all the responsibility) Still cost me $ 2.00 to ride the bus, if you get my point. (BFD)

Anyway, I was never a big fan of the Glock pistol until I was looking for a new back up gun and I tried one a newer Officer was carrying as a back-up.  It was love at first "sight" The reliability is great, shoot accurate right out of the box, nice capacity and easy to conceal.  I wear mine in a fobus angle holster when on duty.  I have made several modifications to the gun, all of which are way to easy to do, that only improved a great pistol.

Can anyone tell me something bad about this gun, or am I just blinded by love or lust, because I can't see any  thing wrong with this gun.

Our duty weapon is the Sig-229 in .40cal, nice gun, just to big and heavy for my taste, especially for off duty carry.

What modifications have you made?

I can... It's a 9mm! ;D But in it's defense, it IS Still a GLOCK. J/K..... GLOCK's are excellent guns. I carry a GLOCK 30 (Subcompact .45 ACP) everyday. I love the gun!

u bet kind of. In my state of MA the attorny general says the only safe glocks are the ones made pre '98. But our LE and state adn fed. agents are more than capable of owning and being issued them sooooo..... wicked bad for us. AHHH but do not fear my friend i have found a preband with the slide stamped "MPDC" the only thing i did was pay tooo much for it and replace the night sights with factory dot front and U rear. Would be cool to get my hands on some of those tactical rails and i super crave those G34/G35 models.
but i guess that isnt tooo negitive is it

The word in the circles I travel is to be sure you have a thorough grasp of the manual of arms for that pistol especiallly when you reholster. Anything
that gets into the trigger guard and presses against the trigger ( a holster retention strap, for example) will have a nasty tendency to discharge the cartridge in the chamber.

I have heard (rumor hearsay alert) that at one point the case shipped with the gun actually had a molded plastic protrusion that could press against the trigger with sufficient force to discharge the cartridge if the owner was foolish enough to store the gun with a loaded chamber.

Since I have only fired a Glock once I am hardly the person to consult about it's quirks, but I did want to help remove your rose colored glasses
as you requested.

Best regards,

Follow safety rule 3 and you'll be okay. My most carried pistol is a Glock 33, the baby model in .357 Sig. It usually rests in an Andrews ISWB on my right hip. It has NEVER malfunctioned on me, and likes the 15 (or 16) round mags from it's bigger brothers. My Colt 1911 is more fun, the Glock 33 is handier.

I have a quick update for yall. This past week I have carried none other than the G19 a few hours before work, at work, and up to at least a couple of hours after for a total of < 8 hours/day. I used the clip draw and carried it very VERY hot(15+1). The gun didnt AD once. That G19 always road in a Galco royal summer carry until now. But with the warm weather and my expanding wast from the winter weather concealing even with the 2X bowling/urban-camo shirts printed at times. Now lets be honest 4 a second. Pocket carry is the best fix for warm weather but I felt like experimenting with the G19 and my 642 has already proven itself. So in and out of a car at least twice a day. I had a gunshow so that was an hour+ ride with total time of Fri.(11am-8pm/ packing up, then setup@ show, with all dealers acting like spys), Sat.(6am-7pm/ preshow for dealer, then selling), Sun.(7am-5pm/ selling and packing up then back to shop to unpack again) for opening on Mon. @ noon. 2B Honest the gun road home in cargo pocket strong side after show on Sat. and Sun. but I also took off my shoes on the ride home. After this the clip draw was good enough that i have yet to take it off for that 642 yet. The bowling/UCamo shirts work awsome and i have to emitate Elvis to print. Just saying.
This may help.

My complaint on the G19 is more personal than anything.  The meaty lower part of my hand, the part near the magazine opening, would roll into the well during reloads, and the get cut pretty bad when inserting fresh magazine.  This happened a lot during competition, but rarely in practice (going slower, more concentration??).  I ended up selling the 19 for that reason.  I do not have problems with the 17/22 with the longer frame.

Bidah i have the same problem but i found that carrying the G19 along with my spare mags being G17  the extra length 17rders wouldnt pinch/rip my pinky/back fist during agressive reloads. It also helped me get rid of the "tea sippin" reload. 8)
Then again you could always try to get that G17 to nip ya just to have a reason to carry the G18 mags for reloads. ;D
