H&K USP Tactical w/ AAC EVO Can
« on: October 26, 2008, 09:26:45 PM »
Got to fire off a few rounds from an H&K 45 at the range today.  It had an AAC EVO can on it.  This is the sweetest shooting system I have ever shot.  I don't know if it was the can or what....but smooth beyond belief I felt no recoil..there had to be some but man...not much felt recoil at all.  I had just been shooting a friend's Glock with a 40 cal EVO can...so I had a good comparison.

Anyone else around here have any comments about the H&K USP Tactical?  I think I need to buy one and an EVO 45 can...sweet, sweet, sweet...smooth...

Hey Rastus- I know I need to call again soon so it is on my things to do.

Now on to the gun, one of my really good friends was a Ranger and when he got out went on to become a Federal Agent and he lives and swears by his HK. I love shooting it as well, but the with a price tag well over a grand and being simi hard to find in shops, (At least around here) I seem to always come down on the side of a sig P220 but that is just me.

One thing about people that carry HK, you will find, is most of the time they are professionals. So I think that speaks alot to their durability, and function.

I havent fired the HK45 only the usp, and I have I heard fromt he HK nuts that I know that the HK45 is a even better than the USP. And since it has been out and in magazines and I have dreamed about shooting one.

Hey Mack- I can tell you for sure that, for issue, Border Patrol issues the Hk. I want to say its the P2000 9mm that is their issue. But it may be a USP. But I am pretty sure that its not. This is what I know from having a buddy on one of the QRF teams down there rightnow.

And the friend who is a FA that carries a USP .45, I just called him to find out, its not an issue gun from the Armory. Just like a lot of police departments he got a list he could pick from and purchased the USP after shooting it a bunch and falling in love with it. I know he is also on a Counter Terrorism Squad here but really what that all intales I have no idea. All I know is, he is what they call a "Badass"   8) :o LOL. (at least he thinks so)

Some Seals, Seal Team 6, can pick their side arm I know, and from what I have seen in on Bragg on at the Delta Compound that those boys choose the Hk or FN products pretty religiously. In the SOCOM quarters overseas was the first time I ever fired an Hk handgun.

I shall invoke the authority of none other than Larry Vickers, who spent several years in Delta Force. Larry used a 1911 style pistol. In fact, he had one of the manufacturers, he did not say who, custom make one for him.  ;D

Someone I know spent some time working with the Spec Ops crowd says that HK was always allowed but he didn't see many carrying it.  :-\ He told me that the government has an approved list of vendors who can sell to the military and different branches, and different units within those branches, can get the same type of weapon but from different manufacturers.

This goes into the could be true category: I asked at one of the gun stores in my town why HK products are hard to come by. They told me that HK really doesn't like to sell their stuff to civilians but will do it to pickup a few extra bucks. I wanted to pick up their new rifle, the 416 and was told they wanted to keep that rifle restricted to the military. I believe HK is owned by a UK company, though the pistols are made in Germany. From that point forward, my impression of them soured some.

I have to say these companies are really good with their marketing. Almost all of the top players claim some sort of association with the Spec Ops community. I bet there if Charmin could claim they supply all of the Spec Ops toilet paper, we would run out and buy the stuff by the case load!  Here's the copy for a Charmin ad in SOF: When the Navy Seals need to wipe their ass, they don't use any toilet paper. They use Charmin! Because when they are out kicking ass, they don't need a chapped ass! ;)

Fullauto- Good points. Most of the guys in the units we are talking about that get to choose their guns do pick 1911's. But for the guys that dont you will find that majority of them decide to go with FN or Hk. I dont know why Hk' s seem to never be in gun shops maybe the people that buy them, keep them, but also like you said most just go right  to Government. And not always ours. I am pretty sure GSG 9 and GROM carry Hk products exclusively.

Thanks Ksail!
More to your point: I heard the same about the HK 45. I always liked the mag release they have on their pistols. I just think that is so cool..... 8)

I've got a Tactical just like you shot, and I've also got a USP compact .40, which was my first carry weapon.  Here's what I can tell you, none of which should be taken as gospel.  As for why a lot of dealers don't have them, most folks get them through distributors, since to be an 'Authorized Dealer' you have to - or at least HAD to - place a pretty significant initial order.  I know that Mr. Bane thinks the bore axis in the USP is too high - to me a it's a personal preference thing.  Like a lot of guns, it either feels good in your hands or it doesn't.  The build quality is great, though - I'd put them up against anything else I've seen in terms of durability.

That said, I might be interested in parting with my Tactical...  Other projects, you know.  Make me an offer.  :)

I thought the reason you don't see a lot of HKs in the stores is because the dollar isn't worth sh*t anymore. When they fixed the rate of the Euro compared to the Deutche Mark and the Euro became worth more than a dollar, suddenly our dollars became worth half of what they were when I was stationed in Germany.
